400w 120v Bed Outlet doesn't power much

My truck is an XLT 302A, it does not have Pro Power buttons anywhere, so I assume it does not have Pro Power. The window sticker shows it has "Onboard 400w Outlet" and the it has an outlet in the bed with 400w, 120v with the light always on. This outlet really doesn't run much expect phones, and small stuff. It would not run a blow dryer or vacuum. Am I doing something wrong or is this just a standard plug like on the inside and worthless for actual power tools? Just trying to get to know the trucks capabilities.

Well that's good to know. I was under the impression it would run more when I purchased the truck.

There are larger inverters / generator available as a option... Non-Hybrid 2000 Watt, Hybrid comes with a 2400 Watt and a 7200 Watt is also available on the hybrid that can certainly power a number of power tools. The 400 watt is what has been in the truck for years but a external plug was added in the bed.

Interesting. Not sure I will eve actually use the 110 in the bed but I am curious how easy it would be to upgrade the inverter.

The battery package is engineered completely different between the EB and Hybrid.

I believe that the truck needs to be on, but the engine doesn't need to be running.

Indeed - the vehicle must be on. If you have the PowerBoost hybrid then the gas engine will cycle as needed. Additionally, "generator mode" needs to be enabled from the cabin (touch screen or hard button). It does not appear possible to use remote start and the green hard button in the bed (or FordPass app) to activate generator mode.

You need to look at the wattage rating for the items that you intend to power up. A hair dryer usually takes 1500watts, which is almost four times what the 400w plug is rated for.

You might be able to use FORScan to tweak the timeout. This list is WIP. You will need an ODB-II device and register with the FORScan community. Its an easy process to program the modules, just be sure you follow the instructions - backup the original config, etc.
