Is there a setting in Carplay navigation to remove all charging stops?
On our trip leg from Waco to Denison we had charged to 80% and had 220 miles of range and the destination was 160 miles. The navigation was adding a charging stop inbetween and once you start the navigation you can’t zoom out and see that a charging stop was added. I would cancel the navigation and start over and it would add a stop again. I tried to remove the car so that carplay would not know I was in a EV but then it would no longer be connected to the car. I ended up not using the car navigation or carplay at all and used google on my phone. We ended up in Dennison with 60 miles of range without stopping, but having in car navigation is nice and we were not able to use it because it was so horribly wrong.

Last year it re-routed us around Dallas and I thought it was because of traffic, but it was because navigation wanted us to charge so it took us to a level 2 charger that we did not need.

What am I doing wrong or is it really this bad?

Subscribing. I wasn’t paying attention last night and ended up pretty far from home and a battery that Apple Maps didn’t think I could make it home with. I knew I most likely could and was willing to risk it, but I really wanted to keep an eye on it since the last chance DCFC on my route home was still 20ish miles away.

FWIW I switch to the truck nav and it knew I could make it. Though it was a butt clencher for a bit, the BMS definitely wasn’t showing even discharge towards the low end and I ended up having plenty to spare.

Don’t judge my music, it was late and I needed a beat to keep me awake.

There were 3 Tesla superchargers we could have stopped at if needed along the way that would have been more convenient. Apple maps is choosing junk out of the way charging stops on top of the fact that they are not needed.

Did you use the Supercharger in Dennison?

Yes, Dennison is the last SC in TX before Tulsa and 80% will get you to Tulsa if you keep 1.9mi/kwh or better.

I would never make it. This weekend - driving the same direction as you - North into Oklahoma, 77 MPH - single person in the truck. Heat down to 68 or off at times and I never got above 1.6 mi/kwh. Coming home I was able to get 1.7. I can't get my truck to do any better than that. I could drive a bit slower, but it's not smart in traffic mostly moving about 80 or a bit more.

I've got the chargers, so I don't mind stopping, but I don't have a choice not getting above 1.6/1.7.

My strategy in that situation is:
1. Find a semi doing 60-70
2. Follow
3. Heating steering wheel and seats only. if you need to clear windows, put on air to windshield only without heat. make sure to switch off heat.

Hyper milers call it "finding an adapter vehicle". Like saying to everyone else "I'd go faster but I'm stuck behind this semi, sorry folks"

Yes, it's boring but it can make a huge difference to range. Painful as it is. put on some podcasts to listen to.

Long term:
1. Make sure all tires are fully inflated to a PSi that you are comfortable running with. higher the better.
2. Vehicle is clean
3. Not carrying things that you don't need to be carrying.
4. When on the freeway, switch off one pedal drive mode as it's easier on the feet and you don't slow down when you don't mean to. Though I find that I want one pedal mode on all the time. I just use cruise control (adaptive) and constantly adjust the max speed.

We left on the 28th. 43 degrees, heat off except seat heaters. 65-70mph, little or no wind. I think we were at 2.0mi/kwh. Stock 20” wheels/tires 40 psi.

I think we could make Melissa as we leave at 98%, but with the dogs it’s a bit risky and I don’t really trust the Lightning in the 10s of miles on range.

I had a semi slow and make me pass then blast his horn when I followed behind. And I was’t even trying to hyper mile behind him I just didn’t feel like being lead at 1:00am.

Thanks for the reminders, you are correct I could do better if I tried. If I were on a cross country trip I would have to be more disciplined for charger planning.

I do need to check tires again - I had them to 36 a few weeks ago, but I looked once with the colder weather they were at 34 while on the road.

While I would like to get up to 1.8 or 1.9, for the trip to mom's in OK it is 200 miles door to door. The charger I like is 125 miles from my house, so I leave at 100% - drive like I want and don't truly worry about mi/kW as I'll make it the 125 no matter. I charge to 90% for the remainder of the trip and to get back to the charger - that is 75 miles each way/ 150 total. I pull back in to the very same charger on my way home with about 15%. I charge to 80% and I pull back in at home with about 15% charge. I do all that and just drive like I want - between 77 - 80 and never have a worry.

However It is always intriguing to find others doing much better, I guess it is just discipline, but not easy North bound into a headwind with temps even at 40 degrees.
