This is a topic that we need regulations on the limit per KW for EV charging stations.

Typical fast charging EV rates I've seen between $0.45 and $0.55 per KW.

My old 2020 ICE 5.0 F150 averaged 18mpg.

18miles devided by 2miles per KW = 9KW. At $0.50 x 9KW = $4.50.

loved the truck and 99% of my charging is at home, but without limits. I believe we will get fk'd 5 years down the road....just saying

We don't need any more regulations!!!!!! Shop around. Saturday I paid $0.61/kw. 12 miles down the road it was $.47/kw. It was worth more because the .61kw DCFC was right next door to my hotel. The other factor is speed. Time is money and while the DCFC down the road might have been faster, I'd have and extra half an hour driving there. Shop Around! all prices are online.

If this country is going to catchup (not lead) the rest of world into electrification of the transportation infrastructure, a less than gasoline cost has got to be a constant.

Us earlier adapters are already here and there has to be a compelling reason for the next wave of adapters to come onboard. Cost savings is going to be that catalyst. Yes, I know the DCFC providers have to make money, but they do not have to make a fortune. At least not right away.

The cost of a KWH varies greatly across the country, but the pricing at the ā€˜pumpsā€™ donā€™t seem to be tied that.

I just recently took the most painful road trip of my life financially as far as cost for travel. 1000 miles across North Dakota and Minnesota going the speed limit in frigid temperatures. I spent $400 fast charging to go 1000 miles. Thatā€™s $2.50 a mile!!! gas was 2.74 a gallon. Even driving an old-school Hummer getting 4 miles to the gallon. I wouldā€™ve saved money. I even scored a free charge in one city along the way. I absolutely love this thing, but this trip put me on the fence.

Me and the wife sat down and talked about it. This either needs to rectify itself very quickly, get an another vehicle, or seeing as this is worth more than I paid for it get rid of it. It makes me sick thinking like that, but that was just unacceptable. It wouldnā€™t bother me that the trip took four hours longer due to charging stops if it was cheaper. But I actually looked and a plane ticket for the trip I took wouldā€™ve only cost me $50 more round-trip.

Do you perhaps mean 40 cents a mile?... $0.40 x 18 miles is $7.20 a so called gallon.

The hummer would have cost $685 for the same distance at $2.74 per gallon and a 1000miles/4mpg.

The truck would have cost around $152 for the 1000miles at 18mpg.

Oh God, I shouldnā€™t be doing math right after waking up and hung over

Youā€™re right. But my old truck at 15 miles of a gallon would have been half the cost not nearly as bad. But seeing as most of my travel is 100 miles within home I can relax now.

Assume 50 cents per kWh. $12.99 fee. ~20% savings. 12.99 / 0.10 = 130kW 1.X charges.

If your expectation that driving an EV on the highway was cheaper than gas, you didn't do enough research prior to buying. EVs are cheaper to drive LOCALLY. On the highway, including leaving with a full, lower-priced, "tank", plus finding free hotel charging, you will usually come in around the same price as a similar gas vehicle.
