I also have an XC90 PHEV the wife is using to ferry kids around and use a FCSP for my Lightning. It's annoying that we can't use for the XC90, but it's already installed and more hassle than it's worth to swap it out now. We've just been using level 1 and it meets 95% of our needs.

I don't mind it when she has to use gas due to forgetting to plug in and not enough time to top up. You want to run the engine to keep it in good order. She uses gas about once a week, the Volvo app is reporting 52mpg (effective when gas/electric is combined) so we're happy.

EDIT: Wanted to add that the XC90 is capped at 20A, so whatever solution you decide on keep that in mind.

I didn’t realize it would do 20….I kind of wondered why it seemed to charge a little quicker on on our Ford Connected Station than the OEM. 😀

I don't know if it was temperature related (I know it would have been on our old XC90T8), but the new xc60T8 that I was driving temporarily insisted on starting the engine once daily or maybe every other day, but just for a minute. Probably burned between 0.05 and 0.1 gallons (100mpg around the 5 mile mark). The one curious behavior was the engine starting as I was slowing to a stop on multiple occasions. My XC90 never did this (only while stopped or while accelerating). It felt like a new driver dumping the clutch in 1st gear while driving 5mph. I hope your Volvo does not exhibit this behavior. My daughter looked over at me once "Daddy, what just happened?" The Volvo phev usually charged at 3.7kW and from empty to full took a little over 14 kWh.

Interesting. I've only driven it a handful of times, with most of it highway and I put the battery on hold. The few times I drove locally didn't notice that. I would ask my wife but she never pays attention to that kind of thing. It's either working or it isn't.

It did go into turtle mode after just 2k miles. Dealer said it was the fuel pump. I think that's kinda odd but its been fine since they replaced it.

We haven't had a chance to use level 2 on it. I'm running out of room in our breaker panel, I wouldn't mind having a spare 240v outlet in the garage. We are looking at putting in an emergency load subpanel to use with the lightning's pro power which would then open up some slots.

When we added rooftop solar I also had our service upgraded to 200 Amp (new panel in garage with old panel in the basement setup as a sub panel so lots of space). We have natural gas heat and hot water so our big loads are the electric range/oven and dryer. With 100 amp service I had a 30 amp evse (only charged overnight) and a 16 amp and 24 amp evse in the garage. I didn't do a load analysis, but didn't use all of them at the same time and both vehicles at that time only supported 16 amp charging. Two garage bays and one parking spot outside next to the garage so I like having a plug available wherever the car could be parked. We now have three EVs and with the 200 amp service I am completely comfortable with our current 2x30amp, 1x48 amp EVSEs. They were all provided free of charge from the electric company and are all set to start charging at different times overnight and get discounted charging from our local electric company (saves about 4.5 cents per kWh). We also have the Fcsp installed, as a backup charge station if the others should fail or I really need to add SOC quickly to the lightning.
Having a plug next to wherever each car is parked makes operating an EV/phev that much better. If you can find the space definitely add the extra evse (nice to have a backup, even if slower, if the fcsp stops working).

On the highway, if you put a destination in the nav with the battery set to “auto”, it will sip the battery ending at zero when you arrive at your destination.

In town, we use “Pure” mode and the engine never starts unless you try to accelerate faster than it can on battery or you deplete the battery.

Oh, didn't know that about using it on the highway. I'll check that out this summer, we'll likely take it to El Paso for the 4th since we can then go out for meals in 1 vehicle. I liked taking the Lightning, but having the 3rd row is just more convenient with extra family around.

As we were coming into town with a minimal level of charge remaining I was wondering about the scenario where I have to call my neighbor and have him bring his lightning so I could plug mine in.

Would I be able to drive while plugged into him? 😆
