Coming from a Model Y, talk me in/out of a Lightning

My 23 Platinum locks when I walk away. I got that feature in an update around 6 months ago. I think there was also a setting somewhere that I had to turn on.

no, I do the same. I was referring to needing to carry the fob. Walk away lock is available but most of us don’t have the update yet.

Yeah, I never cary the FOB. I’m down to phone and wallet.

I don't need to carry a fob either... I think it was the same update. Not sure why some people get updates and others don't. I am not in any special early access program either.

The Lightning is very fast, very comfortable, quiet, can haul a load of lumber, and can tow my 7000 pound boat the 20 miles I need it to.

It could tow your 7,000lb boat about 140 miles if you really need it to but you better have a charging option by the dock

I have a '22 Lariat ER and it does not have walk away lock. It's my understanding the '24 model has walk away lock like the MachE and it's anyone's guess if our older Lightnings will get it via OTA.

Why not just press the button on any of the 4 the door handles?

They are inconsistent. It can take 1, 2, 3 or more touches. The lower two buttons always work.

Weird. Ours works 100% of the time with one press. Are you using an iPhone? Our 14 pros and now 16 pros have never had a problem with PAAK and door button lock/unlock. Maybe delete your PAAK and re-pair.

13 Pro. It’s 1-2 tries on unlock. If it’s more than that I’ll bring Fordpass to the front. Then it’s 1. What was annoying was when I washed the truck, if I left my phone in my pocket it would constantly be locking, unlocking, presenting, retracting the side board if was working around the doors. I found that if I put my phone in the truck it stays unlocked. I’m good with how it is now. The Tesla can miss on unlock too.

<- this truck (2022 Lariat) was our first EV ever. Then my wife got a 2023 Tesla Model Y performance. We sold the Tesla in under a year, and got her a 2023 Lightning, because it's that much better and also not nearly as... controversial these days.

Just do it, best call ever.

My wife has a Y and I have a gas F150 Lariat. The lightning prices seem good right now so I'm considering pulling the trigger on a lariat lightning. Anything I should know since I'm coming from the world of Tesla?

I own a 2019 model s and lightning. Had the model S first for a couple years (bought it used) and then bought the lightning (SR Lariat) about a year and a half ago

I also came from an ICE F150 (2019 raptor)

The lightning is much more traditional of a vehicle and bigger obviously...it is essentially identical to the ICE f150 that you have but with a bit more tech....however the lightning drives much better than the ice F150 on road...acceleration doesn't compare, ride is smoother and I even leveled mine on 34's but it still is really comfortable....the frunk adds a ton of storage. the fit and finish is great, slightly better materials than the ICE f150 in many areas


negatives:
compared to the tesla the big negatives are:
that you don't have the full tesla charging network....even with the ford adapter it only works on newer V3 and V4 chargers (which have built in adapter anyway)
also when going to tesla chargers the cable is often too short to park in just one spot and that is a pain

highway speeds impact the range much more than in the tesla (I do have a level and bigger tires so may not be as bad stock)....with the model S I routinely can drive at 80+MPH but with the lightning I usually stay around 75MPH

winter range loss is pretty much proportionate to the tesla and something I was already ready for.....you can technically (and I have) run with the cabin heat off and seat heater on and get very good winter range

I disagree. I have never taken the fob anywhere with me and have owned the truck for two years now. PaaK works fine.

Now you don't get the Key cards that you get with Teslas if that's what you're referring to but also don't think they are needed.

You can disagree all you want, but PaaK is not foolproof, nor is passcode. Ask those that got stuck.

I’m aware of the limitation. Fortunately I can’t see a time when I would need to tow the current boat beyond a 20 mile radius from the house. I’m shopping for a replacement boat, it might get very interesting if I buy something far away and need to tow it home. Something within 300 miles is no big deal, but a round trip to Florida for something would be more adventure than I’d want with the battery limitations.
