Correct. Handsfree will not work on a highway without a divider.

It will also not work if the highway is under construction and they move your side to the other side of the road.

Two members on here are saying it is engaging on undivided highways.
I don’t recall anyone stating that “hands-free” is engaging on undivided lane roads.

I don't want BlueCruise on undivided highways, but it starts, tells me to remove hands, then tells me to grab the wheel seconds later (I think when oncoming traffic is sensed).

I interpret that as a case of inaccurately describing what actually happened.

Trust me, you don’t want regular cruise control once you try adaptive. They don’t offer it easily because only a bonehead would use it.
There are cases where I do. I had a simliar tech since 2006 and found times when I just want my speed set, and nothing else.

I am going to take a guess. If you have lane keep assist turned on, and activate cruise control, it says blue cruise activated and for a few seconds will even act like it is in hands free mode since lance centering is on. However, the "hands free" icon should not show up in the gauge cluster unless you are on a mapped divided highway. So, on a 2 lane highway, the truck will steer for you, but you need to keep you hands on the wheel. You have a couple seconds leeway before it tells at you. On a mapped divided highway the handsfree icon will show up and the truck will steer for you without needing your hands on the wheel.

Ford really screwed up the nomenclature and iconography to make it far more complex than it really is.
I can't say I saw the icon for hands-free, so you may be correct. However, as soon as I press the cruise control button on the wheel, a square box in the cluster tells me to remove my hands and starts steering through corners, until oncoming traffic, then a box pops up telling me to grab the wheel. When I turned hands-free off in the settings, this no longer happens.

This is on Highway 99w Northbound between Junction City and Monroe, Oregon.

I have tried this again, and am getting notification that "BlueCruise is Active" and to remove my hands from the wheel on a two lane undivided highway that mostly has loaded logging trucks on it.

So my choices are to never turn on cruise control while not on the freeway, or disable BlueCruise...
