Sometimes it makes sense. I paid 2k extra to get a 2022. If I didn’t I would be end of next year at best.

$7,000 price increase.
1.5 year wait
Not eligible for tax credit. -$7,500.
I have AM radio
I have bed scales
I have Iced Blue Silver

Guess if I’d rather pay 12.5k more I could have waited. Only thing better for waiting would have been heated seats in my pro. I figure in a year or two I’ll add Katskin heated/cooled or see what’s out on the market
My dad did as well. He said he really would have considered waiting for 2023 if they said if he pushed him he'd get 2022 pricing and no more markups. I got 2023 with 2022 pricing

Likely unrelated, but a quick scroll through CarGuru in my area and there is only one Lightning listed by a dealer for above MSRP, many without prices listed at all, and several purporting to be listed at MSRP. Strange compared to few weeks ago, when the only Lightnings listed were each for $20-30K over MSRP.
Out of curiosity I emailed about half a dozen of those "MSRP" listings. They were all either already reserved (one of their customers put a deposit on it) or the actual asking price was $20k-$40K over MSRP, but they listed MSRP as a hook. Nobody is selling a showroom or "mannequin" F150 Lightning at MSRP.

I would imagine it would make the news of Ford had started renegotiating dealer contacts for the split between ica and ev. I haven't seen anything about it. Even then, many states have laws that will prevent Ford from dictating pricing. It will be interesting to see what Ford is able to legally mandate and if/how/when dealers will sue them over it.
That is expected to happen in the Fall (I think September). There's a fair amount of talk of it happening, but it's not clear what. I expect no-haggle fixed pricing to be at the top of the new rules though.

The question is how are they going to be able to enforce the pricing restrictions and you better believe that these dealers that are making millions of dollars in markup are going to fight it (and potentially win).

They will just change the franchise agreement. Scion did this years ago, I imagine Ford can as well.

A world with our car dealers... What a Glorious Day.... Let them keep marking things up and making a horror show of the entire process... Eventually car manufacturers will make the 100% switch... Probably will start with EVs....

it was a 2022 Lightning
Yeap he was one of the few that paid ADM then. There was no reason to do so - so it’s quite unfortunate. He could have easily switched dealerships.

i suspected as much.

was more intrigued by the fact this wasn’t the case just a few weeks ago, when they were posted at the actual asking prices

made me wonder if something had changed/happened in the last few weeks, causing dealers who were being loud and proud about their markups to instead take a more clandestine approach
