So I'm driving home from work right now, crawling through 2 hours of beltway traffic in the rain. Seemingly out of nowhere, the ding dong sound for keep hands on steering wheel and keep eyes on road has changed. It sounds like a 1995 Windows midi cartoon version of the ding dong. WTF??

Does it sound like it's coming from the gauge cluster and not the speakers? That is a classic sign that your 12v battery was low when you started the truck.

Yes actually it does. That is substantiated by my fog lights being left on for several hours at work before someone told me they were on. Of course my next question is what brilliant software engineer allows that to happen when there is a DC-DC converter to keep the LVB charged?

Very interesting to know what causes it, I don't think I'd ever heard a reason why it does it. Its routing the sounds to the fall back vs through the stereo system.

What happens here? If the 12v is detected low it doesn't fire up the amp for the stereo?

If the 12V is low, the system defaults to the backup speaker in the gauge cluster. Something about the lower voltage makes everything boot up slower. It used to happen a lot on our old gas vehicles, especially if they sat for awhile, like if we went on vacation.

When my BMS was going bad, the proximity alarms sounded like cold frogs and the sound system lost all bass,

This is very good to know. I've had it happen a couple of times, now I know why.
