Ford F-150 Lightning Discount Tires fails again.... I shouldn't be surpised, Installed the wrong TPMS sensors. truck

First the good news... Set of ION 143 20x9 on a set of Ridge Grapplers (Stock size). I wanted +18 offset but after they couldn't find a set decided to try to zero offset. As you all may know the stock rims where +45 Offset on 20x8.5 rims weighing 37 lbs. Wrapped in a set of Goodyear Wrangler Territory HT's weighing 39 lbs for a total of 76 lbs
ION 143's weigh just 29 lbs and a set of Nitto Ridge Grapplers (Model 217630) in the 275/60R-20 size are 47.22 lbs so pretty much the same weight. I know I will lose some range due to rolling restance etc.... but now it looks like a truck. It also drives better. Poke is barely there, I can barely see the tread in my mirror.

Due to the great job Discount Tire did for me on my 2020 Ranger, I gave them instructions! Please Mount all of the tires with the same side out, These tires have 2 distinct sidewalls (My Ranger they got 3 of the 4 the same). Also fill to 45 lbs of air and I paid for NEW TPMS sensors. Got home after being told, drive and the light will turn off.... and lo and behold they installed 315Mhz sensors instead of the 433Mhz the truck uses. I have a TPMS tool, and all they had to do was to scan the old tires. So now I have to spend another couple of hours to get it fixed and unmount and remount my tires. URGH

Yeah am I picky? I wouldn't be if they were so bad. My wifes truck they sent her home with 3 different tires. Seriously I can't make this up. (That was less than a year ago). On my Ranger they unmounted all of my TPMS sensors from the OEM wheels to put in the new wheels and tires making the spares useless as a swap. The set of TPMS sensors that I handed them disappeared the next day when I went back. I also replaced 2 of them in 2024 because the batteries had failed. So this time I paid the $240 for the sensors from them so I wouldn't have any issues.

So why... why do I keep going back? There are no other tire shops near me.

At least they didn't lift the truck up by the battery skid plate like they tried on my truck AFTER I told them there were specific lifting points. I was able to intervene before any damage was done.

Why didn't you keep the OEM sensors? The batteries in them last something like 10 years. Plenty of life left in them.
I just replaced the TPMS original ones in my 18 year old wrangler that were just now showing low battery. Crazy long battery life..!!

I didn't want to seperate them in case I want to use them as a set in the future.

Going in Wednesday to get them changed out. I asked the question, since you have both sets of tires, why don't your techs scan the old tires to make sure they are the correct ones?

The response was their scanners don't do that (WHAT?)

I'm not in the tire business and my $200 Autel scanner will tell me the frequency, the TPMS serial numbers and the battery life. It will wake the sensors and program them as well.

That rim/tyre combo looks pretty nice. I can’t help but think that you would have better ride quality and look even more like a truck with bigger sidewalls though. I know that I am probably in the minority because I am old (over 50), but I think a smaller wheel and taller sidewall looks the most “truck like”. The 20 inch wheels are as big as I would go, but if 17s were available stock, I would have gone smaller! The picture below is the same tyre you got, but the 265/70/17. They make a 285 that should fit… maybe I will try it since yours look so nice.

Yes, wonder if you can go with a smaller diameter rim on the Lightning, like the Bronco rim and tire?

The LT tire shown above is 54.48 lbs (vs 47.22 for the 20') but if you did the XL spec tire (Not the LT) it drops to 43.41 lbs.

I went with the same size as I didn't want to redo the speedo. The stock tire is rght at 33" and you'd have to go up to a 285 to get close to that (slightly under 32.76")

I know the Ridge Grappler isn't the BEST tire available, but they certainly look much better than the EV tires I replaced.
