The Ford video was created to show that the tailgate DOWN didn't increase mpg, in fact it hurt it, and that the new (2015) Ford tailgate was designed to increase mpg. The off the cuff comment by the Ford engineer then created a bunch of babble, because they didn't show any tests or results with a tonneau cover.

As far as testing, there's not going to be any difference between a F-150 Lightning and an F-150 gas truck in efficiency non-gains from a tonneau cover since the design is the same.

I'll pass on the video, but thanks.

Thanks for the thoughts either way 👊

Tonneau oversaw have never definitively been proven to add mileage. But damn they look nice and do add protection to items in the bed.

It's great to see things like this from a more personal perspective, and you detailed everything to the tee to make it make sense. I think as automotive design continues to evolve into "bigger, better, faster" technology, the question will always be there in this particular case, and one day, who knows- maybe the difference will be more noticed one way or the other? Thank you for keeping it real and sharing your experiment with us!

Your video was the kick in the butt that made me go buy a cover today 😂
That’s awesome 😆 did you use my link and discount code? Just don’t expect it to help your range but it sure will look cool and protect your cargo 😎👊

It was an epic fail because the tire pressure was lower during your first round of tests. The heated more inflated tires decreased rolling resistance and made up for the difference. So now you have to go back and try again. Oh and as the day continued, the air over the road heated up decreasing the air density therefore less wind resistance. :headbang:. Just playing.

Before the invention of the frunk, the tonneau cover always provided a weather resistant space for stuff from groceries to tools; a device so I didn't have to dig out and haul snow so I could have a space for groceries and tools...

Now it does the same stuff as before but now I don't have to dig out snow to access the pro power. :muscle:
