FORD TO REVEAL ALL-ELECTRIC F-150 LIGHTNING MAY 19 WITH LIVESTREAMED EVENT AT FORD HQ

DEARBORN, Mich., May 10, 2021 – Ford’s smartest, most innovative truck yet will be all-electric and called F-150 Lightning. The all-new F-150 Lightning will be revealed May 19 at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn and livestreamed for millions to watch.

The F-150 Lightning brings stunning innovation, technologies and capabilities to the F-Series, America’s best-selling vehicle, combined with the power, payload and towing capability that is the hallmark of all Built Ford Tough trucks.

The reveal takes place at 9:30 p.m. EDT, May 19, from Ford World Headquarters and will be broadcast live with 30+ ways to watch across physical and digital destinations, including the Ford Facebook and YouTube channels, Twitter, key national publications as well as 18 impactful out-of-home locations such as Times Square in New York City and Las Vegas Boulevard.

“Every so often, a new vehicle comes along that disrupts the status quo and changes the game … Model T, Mustang, Prius, Model 3. Now comes the F-150 Lightning,” said Ford President and CEO Jim Farley. “America’s favorite vehicle for nearly half a century is going digital and fully electric. F-150 Lightning can power your home during an outage; it’s even quicker than the original F-150 Lightning performance truck; and it will constantly improve through over-the-air updates.”

Added Farley: “The truck of the future will be built with quality and a commitment to sustainability by Ford-UAW workers at the Ford Rouge Complex -- the cathedral of American manufacturing and our most advanced plant.”

Production of the F-150 Lightning begins next spring at the all-new Ford Rouge Electric Vehicle Center.

Hold the phone... I think the Lightning will get a different taillight design from the regular trucks. The edge of the taillight on the teaser angles to the rear more sharply than the current design.

Good catch. The body line of the truck bed is different and the taillight is 100% different. I wonder if the Lightening is getting a completely different box in the back.

I’m sure people are already wondering if the tail lights can be swapped onto a regular 14th generation F150.

The fender area of the body looks completely different. The front fender will of course match the rear fender. So it's almost like the truck will have a completely different body to the 2021 F-150. Better get f150gen15.com ready!

:unsure:Yeah, if you think there is a chip shortage for our trucks now. I can only imagine how many are needed for this one. Maybe they used all the ones for our trucks to build a Lightning so they have something for the live stream and that is why my Limited is sitting in a field somewhere.??

I’m excited to see it, should be cool when it hits the road. I hope it really is robust enough to see it out there as work trucks.
Should somebody go ahead and get a rust or tow mirror thread teed up?

I'm not an electric guy. What does it currently have and why is a solid state battery better?
I'm going to seriously consider purchasing one of these in about 4 years when my truck reaches the 150,000 mile mark.

Solid state battery is just a fancy new way of saying it doesn't use a hydrocarbon based liquid electrolyte that most current lithium ion batteries use. Just about every new battery technology has the goal of greater energy density since that's the greatest drawback of EVs. The other goal is to increase discharge cycles as well as the depth of discharge.

The internal combustion engine has the advantage of only needing to carry 1/15th of the needed products of combustion. For every pound of gasoline burned, you're also using roughly 14 pounds of air. That's why hydrogen fuel cells are a tempting solution to the energy storage dilemma.

Imagine that every time you used a tank of gas, your gas tank got smaller, and then every time you ran your gas tank down to Empty, you irreparably damaged it. So after 100,000 miles what started as a 20 gallon tank is now a 2 gallon tank but to fill it up, you still have to buy 20 gallons of fuel and to replace that fuel tank costs $7,000-$14,000. That is just a simplistic way to describe the limitations of current battery technology and why it has been so important that new technology is developed.
