Just read that Motortrend article. That chart they came up with is very interesting, and counterintuitive to what I expected (I don't own a Lightning yet). I did not expect that road tripping at 75MPH and fast 15 min charging sessions would be the sweet spot for overall time on a long trip.
In the app ABRP you can set how much you speed. I tried various results starting at 85% the speed limit, and in the end even going 130% the speed limit (91 in a 70) you still arrived at your destination earlier. Now, you charged more, I think one trip went from 6 stops to 9 or 10, but still arrived earlier.

A issue with the frequent stop approach is the unknown traffic delay once you enter the exit lane, or turn off the highway. If the Charger is immediately next to the road the ABRP estimate is probably OK. So frustrating when you exit and find yourself trapped behind a heavily loaded truck stopping at all the traffic lights. :facepalm:

Yeah, I guess this is as much art as science. I think when road tripping I would always take the opportunity to charge MORE if possible and go grab a bite/take a leak/take a walk if there was someplace nearby to do so. I guess that is really the feature I'd like to see in Google Maps and ABRP etc - "I want a food AND charging stop - find me places"

True, although I will say that in my quick analysis of speeds that One, ABRP does know the distance from the roadway and accounts for the normal time it takes to drive it, and Two I added an additional 5 minutes of overhead to each charging stop (from 5 to 10 minutes "lost"). It still was faster to just drive faster and stop more.
