Is there any sort of coding tool for Fords like Bimmercode for BMWs? I wonder if the propulsion sounds are just disabled in the non-Platinum models. Really odd to not include this feature on the other trims. The Mach-e cars all have it.

My Palisade was quieter than my Lightning. The fan noise can be quite loud externally. So no, it’s not selfish. Illegal, perhaps but so is doing 85mph in a 75mph. Plus, the 20 sensors and alerts all will still work. Judging by the knuckle heads with their faces in their phones and AirPods playing tunes…it’s the sensors that will save them, not the little artificial buzzing noise from our trucks.

You can realize that the guy with his face in his phone on the highway isn't the same guy, gal, of child in a parking lot, right?

If only there was something that only alerted others when the likely hood of both moving vehicles and pedestrians being in close proximity is high.

We rented one of these rare beasts in Phoenix. Complete with the Borla enhanced sound (exhaust). Was it ever a hoot to drive. From a nonchalant quiet existence to “big block ready to rumble“. The speed shifting mimics paddle shifting with amazing timing. Dual exterior speakers. Hilarious good fun. You’d get stares on a so equipped Lighting. I suspected they’ve tested such a system, just waiting for the proper EV truck density.

uh, yes…I realize that pedestrian isn’t walking on the freeway. 🙄
No one is going to listen to the hum going forward. It’s pretty subtle. Truly, the fans are louder. Certainly not a child. Defensive driving is the only thing that will save those not paying attention. It’s a nanny state rule and completely ridiculous.

I never said pedestrians were walking on the freeway, read that again

You are rationalizing.

The fans don't run all the time. Mine rarely run.

Nobody is "listening" to it, the point is that there is a noise to indicate a vehicle is moving nearby.

It's a rule because people WERE getting hurt, stow the "nany state" garbage, that's just saying what you want to hear.

People were getting hurt? At a higher rate than typical cars? Again, my Palisade was as quiet as my truck! Again, the warnings inside this truck are tenfold of those I had in my 2019 F250 and it auto brakes in reverse if it detects a pedestrian. The biggest risk is someone might walk into my truck with there head in their phone!

“It should also be noted that modern Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) now often include pedestrian detection and avoidance, which will reduce the number of collisions of this type irrespective of vehicle type. Also, while EVs are quiet without AVAS, they’re not silent. They make just as much, if not more tire noise (due to extra weight). I’ve owned some pretty quiet ICE cars, which had engines so silent at 20mph there’s barely any difference to a BEV. If you’re expecting to hear an ICE, you might not be listening out for tire rolling noise. Or you might have your nose buried in your smartphone and not paying attention at all.”

The noise has been required to shut down the busy bodies that felt there was a “potential risk”. Some might even argue it was the anti-EV forces that were pushing that narrative, although I don’t have any evidence of that.

The “nanny state” isn’t garbage, it’s reality. Basically, there are two views on personal responsibility. Those that support a nanny state want to regulate and litigate all risk from daily life under the guise of safety for all! Those that don’t agree, understand the responsibility of driving a vehicle, the potential harm it can do to those around you, and will operate it appropriately without regulating it to death. You can argue a million things that would make daily life safer, but where do we draw the line? When does it become too ridiculous? Only use plastic panels on cars? Need pillows on the bumpers? The added noise does very little, if any thing to fix an imagined risk. It’s absurd.

We aren’t going to convince one another to change our position, so I’ll just leave it at that.

Which is your unscientific rationalization of it. Again, just you seeing what you want to see.

"The warnings inside my truck", so there are pedestrians inside your truck. You do know what we are talking about right?

"Pedestrian warning", which isn't standard now is it.

"Makes just as much TIRE noise", uh, ok, but it doesn't make as much NOISE now does it.

"The noise was required to shut down the busy bodies", a literal statement you yourself made up to rationalize your position. You do know how "tell yourself what you want to hear" works right?

The irony is you link to an OPINION piece that says "scientific study says EVs are more likely to hit pedestrians, but i ersonally don't think so".

Stow your fear mongering about a nany state, just another fear to keep you under control. When what you do impacts OTHERS you don't get to whine about the nanny state. This whole argument is proof positive of this, your noise maker has ZERO practical impact on your life, none. The biggest argument against it would be that you are too sensitive and it annoys you. Yet it's use can help prevent SEVERE injury or death to others, and you think the better situation is that you are not slightly annoyed even if that comes at great risk to someone else. The irony is you feel that someone is taking your freedom because you have to suffer a minor annoyance, yet somehow cannot see that others stand to lose FAR FAR more. Society is just that SOCIETY, don't want to work with others than leave it, but if you want the benifits of modern society then you have to be a participating member and not someone who is so sensitive that they consider their truck making a noise the "nanny state".

To argue this point is pure selfishness.

The propulsion sound makes me happy. It's not loud so it doesn't damage my hearing. The truck purrs. Win-win situation.
