Just read there was a fire last night. No word yet from Rivian. Hope everyone safe, and they didn’t suffer too much damage or loss.

Motor Trend article says it was in the parking lot, no damage to the plant and no injuries. Several dozen vehicles with damage but no other details on the cause yet.

That's Normal.

Also, can't wait until someone makes a regulation that all EVs have to have a space between them when parking to keep the whole line of dominoes from catching fire.

My son worked there as an intern the last 8 months. They had two fires at the plant while he was there. They seemed to be equipped for dealing with them - so far.

I think part of the freakout factor with EVs is about how they catch fire as oppose to how often. With ICE there is an expectation that in most cases engine or associated parts have to be hot for a fuel leak to result in fire. And that is usually while or shortly after using it. On the other hand, some of the EV fires, Like Rivian, Lightning or Bolt happens when the car is just sitting there long after it stopped moving, sometimes inside a house people are sleeping in. That seeming randomness (not knowing if and when it is going to get you) is something that messes with people's head. Similar tactics (keeping people in the dark about their faith) is used to torture people. Logically we can do the math about the likelihood of that happening to us but mind is a terrible thing and often does anything to avoid math.
