overpaid computer nerd.
This is why I plan to lease. If after 3 years I decide I want to keep it then I can, of not I can trade up to the latest tech.
I'm curious what the lease rates are going to look like for early buyers as I feel like even at 3 years in the demand is going to be outpacing supply for the lightning so residual may be higher than expected. Residual should already be higher percentage than an ice f-150. Also if Ford's plan to move people to custom orders and reducing supply on dealer lots works out, vehicles should be selling for closer to MSRP which hopefully will help with resale values (which are already high)
Same here. I usually buy but the rapidly changing tech pretty much demands leasing.

It all makes sense. The only crapshoot factor are the market status in a few years and the Tech part of the deal. Car market right now is more ridiculous that I have ever seen. I can sell a Truck I bought 10 years ago for more today than what I paid for it then. This is partly because of chip shortage, partly inflation and the other part is the truck still runs almost as good as it did back then and any mechanic can work on things that I can not. The crap shoot factor with EV is that unlike my old ICE, it’s gas’s tank (battery) shrinks over time. Unlike my old truck that was a truck with a few chips in it, It is an iPad with wheels on. The moment the software is not supported and your control unit goes caput, you may have to throw away a perfectly good truck like most of your electronics. One thing, Lightening has going for it is that it is an F150 and it’s market share is so large that there is motivation for third party to figure out a way around proprietary software issues. Tomorrow SS batteries may come out or another Tech we didn’t think of that may impact resale prices. With anything Tech, crap shoot factor is mighty hi. If leasing numbers work out for you, it is a smart choice for a new Truck.

So the wife and I will be at ZMax Monday. Will try to get good photo's and video to share. Hopefully good information and a test drive in multiple trims and battery packs.

Not for me. There is no chance they will have a Lightening Pro at any of these events. Looking at a $90K F150 and ordering a $40K one makes it that much harder to live with.
And you know this how?

In promoting this event Ford says:
Then get into the F-150 Lightning to experience the nearly instant torque and acceleration of Lightning Pro. Realize its towing capability and feel how well it maneuvers when put to the test. One drive, and you’ll understand why the F-150 Lightning is the next defining moment in the move to electrification.

As long as I get to ride in a Lightning of any model, I’m in.

In that case, please share any info especially pictures about Pro even if that is not what you are ordering. It will be greatly appreciated.

I didn’t get any invite so it is much easier to say I won’t go ;)

Hopefully won't be rained out tonight at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the event. Not looking promising.

Got to the Charlotte ZMax dragstrip Lightning event. The model name fit the weather perfectly. Thunderstorms all around.
They had 2 Pro's and an XLT to drive you in. My wife and I got in the XLT with extended range battery.
Certainly fast but what was more impressive was the high speed cornering. Drove like a GTI through the cones with little to no body roll.
The Pro's looked much sharper then I imagined. I could easily opt for one but unless your fleet you cannot get the extended range battery which is a must for me.
Pro's will be available to anyone but only in base package for battery.
My favorite and the wife's was the blue silver. Looked great in person. Looks like Spring orders and mid summer deliveries for early orders.

Thank you for sharing your impressions of the ride along. I can't wait to experience it myself. By the way, I completely agree that the ER battery is a must for me.

I really want that ER battery but creeping close to $70k is gonna be tough. I sure hope they change their minds on the ER Pro limitations.

That pic with the black truck is a Pro. I thought it looked sharp. Give me the ER battery and I am good. Wonder what it is going to take to become fleet. Order size or proof your a business?

Took a ride In the red XLT. Torque like a muscle car. Planted like a sports car. XLT cloth interior feels premium. Felt like a little kid again when the Ford Rep took off. I was leaning towards the lariat but if budget wise it doesn’t work, the XLT will do just fine.

Thanks for Sharing - I am very very jealous. Rapid red XLT is the current top choice for my build. Did it have automatic or manual climate controls?
