I paid a lot of money for the factory retractable tonneau cover and I simply love it. What I don't care for is the noise it makes when my rear window is open while driving. It makes quite a racket while driving over minor bumps. I'm hoping there is a simple fix for this. Does anyone else have the retractable cover and has experienced this annoying noise?

I had a gator retractable cover that I gave away due to excessive rattling. I bought a diamondback se cover. It cost more than most but so far it’s been great. You can get a 10% discount if you’re a veteran or still on active duty. Not affiliated with DB in anyway.

I’ve got the Ford retractable, the higher end one with thats got the t slot rails. I haven’t noticed excessive noise when driving, only when I go to open it, it sounds pretty much like a metal garage door.

However, I didn’t get it installed at the factory. I installed it myself, which was quite simple to do.

I don't have the Ford version so I don't know if anything is different, but I do have the Retrax model (who I believe makes the Ford version) and I can't say I've noticed anything.
I too have the fancier model XR with the T slots.

I think they have two, one with aluminum slats and one with, plastic? maybe the plastic on is noisier ? I

Not sure which one I have but it comes with the lock with key. When I ordered it with the truck last November, it costed $2,200. I've read that you can stand on it. It's a solid cover but all of my other covers were pretty much silent.

If you can stand on it, it’s the more expensive version with the aluminum slats instead of the plastic.

If it’s making noise I might recommend trying to do an adjustment - or asking the dealer to do an adjustment. It’s possible your rails are loose or the springs aren’t tight.

I had the Diamondback SE since 2015 and just upgraded to the HD on the Lightning. Very nice covers with great utility. If you want security and utility in a package, this is the best one I've seen.

I have the RetraxOne XR sliding tonneau and I, too, have noticed the hollowness of the cover whilst going over bumps. This did cost me $2600 CDN. The more expensive one was way over my budget. Coming from a BakFlipMX4 with Elevate Rails that I had on the truck I wanted to use my low profile rack and I couldn't fold the BakFlip with those rails which was annoying (couldn't get access to my bed from above). The Retrax gives me that freedom however I'm not completely satisfied with the sound. I think the slats are making sound. Might be similar on yours.

I have the Retrax Pro XR (the aluminum one with T-slots). I have driven with the rear window open quite a bit and I've never noticed any noise. Very solid cover. I installed myself and made sure the rails and alignment were tight.
