I got the heated steering wheel added by the dealer a couple months ago. I started using it but have noticed that after it heats up, it immediately stops and the wheel goes cold. Turning it off and then back on doesn't help. I haven't had this happen in any other vehicle in the past. Has anyone else noticed this?

Ford vehicles used to have a parameter for heated wheel timeout. I think the default was 1 hour? The parameter was accessible on ForScan. I don’t know if this applies to the Lightning or not.

Yes, I’ve noticed the same. It starts out really toasty and then seems to shutdown entirely during the trip.

Works again the next time, but does the same thing.

I wonder how to find out if there is a pre set "time out" on this. It's not more than 10 minutes in my 2023 Lariat ER. 30 minutes would be much better.

same. the ICE guys have the same thing, and it's programmed that way by Ford. Funny, my wife's mach e stays warm during the whole trip, IRRC.

My Mach-E shuts off at exactly the 1 hour mark. At least it did last winter. I haven’t yet had 1+ hour trip this winter.

There is a thread on this forum where the Forscan parameters are given to adjust the temperature and timeout for the heated steering. You need to understand Forscan and how it works and accept the risks of using it to make the adjustments.

Use at your own risk :cool:

This one allows you to adjust the temperature: https://www.f150lightningforum.com/forum/threads/heated-steering-wheel-weak.17084/#post-344719

I've pulled the values from the forum however I have not tried them yet! Others have had success.

Here are the Forscan addresses and values.
The Forscan address for the temperature is: 724-06-01 *xxx xxxx --

0 =HSWLTSP 24°C8 =HSWLTSP 32°C
1 =HSWLTSP 25°C9 =HSWLTSP 33°C
2 =HSWLTSP 26°CA =HSWLTSP 34°C
3 =HSWLTSP 27°CB =HSWLTSP 35°C
4 =HSWLTSP 28°CC =HSWLTSP 36°C
5 =HSWLTSP 29°CD =HSWLTSP 37°C
6 =HSWLTSP 30°CE =HSWLTSP 38°C
7 =HSWLTSP 31°CF =HSWLTSP 39°C

This is the setting for auto shut off on the heated steering
724-06-01x*xxxxxx

0 =HSWASOT Off (No AutoShutOff)4 =HSWASOT 30 min
1 =HSWASOT 10 min5 =HSWASOT 40 min
2 =HSWASOT 15 min6 =HSWASOT 50 min
3 =HSWASOT 20 min7 =HSWASOT 60 min

Note: setting this value to 0 kills the AutoShutOff.

If you have tried this and had success, please report back... :)

Yup - My Lightning heated wheel is way worse than my wife's Mach-e. Her gets much warmer and stays that way much better.

Mine get's luke warm at best (except one tiny spot on the bottom right, where the spoke connects).
