One trick - tip your cup just a bit if you can. Use the bottom of your cup to push one or two holders, then push down on the other side...

I love these cupholders more than any I've had. But this small change in my "insertion" behavior has made them even better.

Now on to more important topics like worrying about the tint of interior lights...

The prong things that put pressure on your cups are held in by a rubber band type thingy (sorry for being so technical). You could probably replace the thingy with a looser rubber band and might get the effect you desire. Or you might break it. You should upgrade to lighted cupholders anyway.😁

The Cup holders in my 23 are amazing for my yetis, but the ones behind the center console are a complete joke. I ended up buying Gorilla Grip inserts to fix it, but the situation does make me think if the teams at Ford ever collaborated on the topic....

I think every automaker would be ecstatic if the number one complaint about their vehicles was “bad cup holders”.

For 23 and later Lightnings the upgrade is significantly harder as Ford deleted the cutouts that we have on our 2022 Lightnings with simple dummy plugs in them. They'd have to measure and cut out the openings to mount the light modules into.

Another (small) reason 2022 is the best year. My Ford friends told me to avoid first model year vehicles but I've yet to be disappointed by mine.

Hard agree. 2022 Lightnings have heard their issues, but to me seem to be the most contented and fully featured where it matters. Obvious minor things like power running boards aside.

Platinums could be had with lay flat and "multi-contour" massage functionality (although even this is limited in 2022). They also had the full speaker count for the B&O unleashed. Post 2023 they reduced the speaker count by four.

Lariats and Platinums also all had heated wheels, on-board scales, CHMSL cameras and a year of Blue Cruise included (if you're into that)

2022/2023 ER models are also the only to have dual on-board chargers for an industry-leading max AC charging current of 80A at 240V. 2024+ models are nerfed at roughly half that.

2022s also obviously have the aforementioned cutouts for all the deleted interior accent lighting, making the retrofit a relatively straightforward process. Barring Ford not cheaping out and actually including the lights from the factory, this is the next best option.

2022s also have the spare tire crank lock, something that was deleted starting in 2023.

2022/2023 Lariat and Platinum ERs also maintain the fold-flat underneath storage, which is deleted for all trims and models starting in 2024. Insanity.

All in all, I'm pretty pleased with my 2022, even if I probably paid more for it than I could have gotten a 2024 today.

Power running boards are the one thing I wish my 2022 Platinum had. My wife's Navigator has them and they are far superior to my fixed boards. I thought they were a purely aesthetic option until I actually used them.

On my wife's car they stick out a bit farther than my truck, which puts them in the perfect position to get in and out without sliding across the seat. It's more comfortable and should result in less wear-and-tear. I'm assuming it's a similar setup for F150.

I would love to retrofit power running boards if it were straight forward. I don't think it is though.

New owner of a 2023 Lightning Lariat and I was wondering if anyone else is having the same issue.

The 2 cup holders in the front center console are awful! They take a severe amount of force to put in a Stanley (or Yeti) -style cup into them. For me, it usually causes a splash and a small spill.

Anyone else having issues with the cup holders?
Look at it this way. If you have a crash and turn over, your cup won't come out and hit you in the head.

I almost traded mine in because of the cup holders, but decided to just plow through it and tough it out ;)
It is that very attitude that liberated France. The extras meant for the backseaters is a nice fallback too.

If I only had lighted cup holders, I'd extend my pinky finger while sipping.

Best mod ever. Many of us added the missing cupholder lights (blue), cubby (blue) and glove box (white) back in '22 since they eliminated them that year.

Wouldn't mind doing that actually, especially in the cubby and glove box.

I figured that one out in the first hour. Works well. I do drive my truck on crappy dirt road going up to mountaintop radio sites. I did that for the first time with my 3 day old truck yesterday. Nice having my Bubba cup stay put - that was a major issue in my Dodge.

That does look nice.
