Well back in late April a teenager pulled out in front of the wife and my 22 Lightning Platinum got totaled after 7 long weeks. After a lot of thought I decided to replace it with a 24 King Ranch Powerboost. I couldn’t stomach getting another Lightning with less features and having another depreciate so much. Especially with the second generation on the horizon. I was one of the first owners of a Lightning and I will miss it.

Some observations. This 24 powerboost seems smoother than my 21 model.

Blue cruise 1.2 is a million times better than 1. However I hate the new pricing structure. I miss 3 years up front with a $600 renewal for 3 more. 3 month trial and $75 a month after? This is crazy. Ford needs to make this more reasonable.

This is my first King Ranch. I got it because it was a lot cheaper than the Platinum 702a for whatever reason. Wow am I glad I did. This interior is the best I have ever owned. Better than my 21 Limited and 22 Lightning Platinum.

I’m looking forward to enjoying my new truck and keeping an eye on what the second generation EV truck will bring.

Surprised they totaled it. the damage looks repairable. Charging harness/connection must have been damaged to the point where it didn't make sense to repair or the risk was too great.

Sorry about the loss of the lighting, the King Ranch looks nice.

it was worse than the picture looks. 55mph or so hit. Right at $40kish in damages. I’ve been sick about it. And sick about how these have depreciated.

Bummer about the Lightning. I get it though. If my Platinum were totaled tomorrow I'd probably look for another 2022 Platinum. Once you have something you don't want to give it up.

What do you like about the King Ranch interior? Does it have massaging seats? That is the feature I didn't realize I'd enjoy as much as I do.

What did the insurance give you for it?

the interior is elegant. Real wood accents. Real leather. Seats are more comfortable. They are massing seats. Great color combo with browns, tan and bronze. Best interior in a vehicle I have ever owned including my Lightning and the 21 Limited I had before that. I wish I could put the Lightning powertrain in a King Ranch now. Hopefully Ford will offer more options in the future.

I miss the leather in my KR Expedition. The best.
I miss the interior of my 2016 KR F-350. Best interior ever and most comfortable seats. The rest of the truck, not so much. Constantly had issues with the DEF system and I replaced the control module and DEF injectors multiple times. 2015-2016 model year diesels had a lot of exhaust system issues. Ford eventually had a recall, but I had already traded the truck at that point. Still drove it for 3 years and put 50K miles on it.

Hopefully as Ford continues to develop EVs we can have a King Ranch Lightning!!!

Sorry to hear about your F150L.

I have owned an EV of some sort since 2016, and we have been going back and forth for years. After this F150L, I am never going back to a ICE again…not even a hybrid

I have a 22 Platinum now, and I have nearly all the bells and whistles with the exception of automatic running boards. I often think to myself what if X dies how can they fix it if the new trucks don’t have that feature anymore. I also have 18 speakers vs the 14 speakers of the newer models.

Glad your wife was okay. Just curious if you have pictures of the other vehicle and how much damage it had?

Yeah that was a factor in my decision. Trying to get one that had everything mine had. There are a scarce number of 22 platinum lightnings for sale. I can do without the EV to make sure I have all the options I’m accustomed to. I’ll be keeping a close eye on the next gen Lightning though.

No we didn’t think to get any. It was tore up pretty good. It sent it spinning around to the other side off the highway.
