Might as well get the new Model Y when it comes out later this year. We love our 2024.
I was going to say this. Having driving many EVs as rentals and an owner. I am most happy with Ford and Tesla. Rivian was great, but the interior was a bit tight in the shoulders for me as I am a larger human than most. Also, as a Tesla owner, you will never want for software updates. they have it down.
I'm sure you're right. People who understand the legitimate purpose of business (to earn a reasonable profit by producing goods and services that benefit society) will see this as an investment that positions the company to perform better in the future, and such an investment reduces current profits, so it reduces tax liability.
I bought a new, late November 2014 manufacture date, BMW i3 REx Tera trim in March 2015. From a pure driving perspective, it's just plain fun to drive, but it does have its limitations. BMW s-canned all the innovative CFRP materials tech in lieu of conventional tech for their EVs. Boring ...
We had three Rex, then moved to the BEV’s. The only issues I ever had were with the ICE motor. The 2018 was the S version. Fun car for sure.
My issue with Hybrids and REX as I describe it, it is the worst of both worlds. A battery under powered, pushing extra weight, still needs oil changes and maintenance, and a motor that is under powered that causes strain when in use. If you are not using the REX that often then you end up with a possible issue with gas getting old, engine not running enough causing other issues. Agree, that’s why once the range because sufficient via upgrades, we moved to the BEV. The original i3 only had 80 miles of range. The last version had 150ish.
I had an 2019 Audi Etron for almost 3 years. Really liked it. The seats with the massage were very comfortable on a trip. The range of 212 was enough back then. But at 40,000 miles the rear motor assembly developed a strange noise, and Audi dealership at first was going to take care of it. They gave me a loaner and three days later said it was a normal sound as they got older! Was pissed! was uncomfortable taking on a trip so I got rid of it. Miss the car.
This mirrors my phev experience. I can't tell you how many times I had battery range in my Volt but the temp was low enough that it insisted on turning on the ICE. And once on it would run for a couple minutes...not enough to actually warm up. My Volvo phev is not as unpleasant when the ice is running, but it does suffer from short run cycles (condensation and fuel dilution of the oil). Since becoming a 2/3 EV household the phev gets very little use.
That's crazy, dealerships will make up the most ridiculous stuff! Sorry you had to get rid of it before it's time, sounds like it was a nice ride.
