Aloha! Just picked up our 2024 Lightning Flash in Anti-matter Blue Metallic. (a color that I love saying!) This works very well for us as our home is fully "solared up". Two PV systems provide more than enough power for all our energy needs, including this truck. Next thing is the Pro-Charger. How many of you have one and do you recommend it?

Welcome to the forum, there are many threads and posts on the chargers. The intro thread isn't the place to dive into them. Give it a quick search. The Ford charger is not at the top of the list at all. There are a ton of better options discussed. Check out the top YouTubers via Google for enough reviews to make your head spin.

Yeah we got an included Ford charger with our Mach-E that has NEMA 14-50 and 5-15 options and it's broken twice already, just goes into yellow when you plug it in to 14-50. Still works on 5-15 but what's the point of that? We took it to the dealer once and you have to leave the car with them to test as a pair. Really annoying. Well they did a software update and it fixed it for a while, but now it's broken again.

I'm using it on 5-15 with my Lightning and it works ok because I don't drive a lot but I'm getting tired of having the cord under the garage door because it doesn't want to close with the automatic opener with the cord under the door. I will eventually put in an outdoor hardwired unit for the Lightning and it won't be a Ford branded unit.

If you want to pick up something cheap and good, the $169 Amazon charger that I bought as a backup for my wife's Mach-E works way better, solid 32A charging at 7.4 KW 24/7 any time we want in burning heat and freezing cold. I pulled the Lightning in the garage one time to charge while I sat in the truck and worked as it's too big to shut the garage door. This is the cheapest charger I could find with a decent number of good reviews, i.e., several hundred. It's been a good decision.

I would only take the Ford Pro charger if it was free, or if I needed it for the power-my-home integration that @TheDuck has no need for with his large solar installation.

Wow! I had no idea how many EVSE (chargers) are available. I found the "State of Charge" series on You Tube. Highly informative. It clearly breaks down the charging process for individual needs. Honestly, the 32-amp charger that came with the truck is sufficient. The biggest reason for a Pro Charger, for our needs, is the bi-directional capability. I would like to have that extra power in reserve for an emergency.
