I just got the new Pirelli XTM AT tires installed on all 4 corners with road force balancing on my Rivian R1S with 20" wheels to clear the OEM calipers.
Car and Driver Review of Pirelli XTM AT
The new Pirelli XTM AT is a 34" All terrain tire with Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) requirements (275 /65 R20 116T SL BS) and 55,000 mile tread warranty.
It’s supposed to be better off-road and better Sidewalls for improved puncture protection along with better mud traction + snow/slush compared to OEM Pirelli Scorpion AT+ tires made for Rivian with 50,000 mile tread warranty and 3PMSF rating.
You can see the “Elect” marking - for electric vehicle on the new Pirelli XTM AT tires I recently installed. The ELECT™ marking on the sidewall identifies Pirelli tires, specifically developed for high performance electric and plug-in vehicles, in line with the Perfect Fit strategy.
Pirelli XTM AT - Reasons to Purchase Brochure
I feel like the only compromise is grip is good but not great when compared to OEM Pirelli Scorpion AT+ made specifically for Rivian to perform really well. They did a great job being able to hold grip on twisty roads while using up all 800 + HP / 900 TQ.
Next up is alignment with Rivian tomorrow.
I’ll post my full review once I get it back from Rivian and put some miles on it.
For now what I noticed is the steering is very responsive and grip is good.
I still need to test some more after alignment because that my impression with 4 miles.
I got like 1.92 miles per kWh in those 4 aggressive miles which is in line with what I expect.
Normally I average 2.00 miles per kWh with road trips in the mix with my lead foot on 34” AT.
After driving 60 miles on my way to drop the vehicle off for alignment / service my impression is it’s very cushy / comfortable tire for on road and does a solid job soaking up potholes, dips and manhole covers compared to OEM Pirelli Scorpion AT specifically made for Rivian. The OEM tires did a great jobs with holding grip and taking 800+ HP / 900 TQ with no problem but got loud roaring noise around 15,000 miles, snow performance was not the best and off road performance was good but not great and / mud performance was okay.
For me to get the excellent on-road grip I am looking for that can handle back roads / twisty roads or launches will be to get a set of 22" Sport wheel with Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season tires made specifically for Rivian with grip / handling in mind (HL275 /50 R22 116H XL BSW RI).

I got 27,700 miles from OEM Pirelli Scorpion AT+ 20" tires with fronts at 2/32 and rear at 3/32. I cross rotated the tires twice in that time. I went off-roading and used all 800+ HP / 900+ TQ daily on road. I liked the overall grip / performance from the OEM tire but did not enjoy the noise after 15k. The Rivian OEM Pirelli Scorpion AT+ tires typically come with 50,000 mile tread warranty 640 A B for treadwear / traction / temp.
The New Pirelli XTM comes with 55,000 miles tread warranty and 660 A B for treadwear / traction / temp. The XTM AT is a lot quieter / comfortable ride even when compared to a new set of OEM Pirelli.
Feel free to check Discount Tire if they have the new Pirelli XTM AT tires for your lightning already available for your wheel size or possibly later once they release all tire sizes.
