Not sure if anyone has posted size by side pics of a Rivian and a Lightning but I was charging this week next to one and was surprised by the size difference. The Rivian at best is close to a Tacoma size maybe smaller.

I charged next to a Rivian last Friday at the Electrify America chargers at Salina Ks. Nice family from Colorado. We admired & took pictures of each others pickups.

A neighbor bought one. She really wanted a Lightning and asked if she could drive mine. She offered for me to drive hers, I declined but she insisted, so of course I did. (She decided she would've preferred a Lightning but she wasn't invited before her Rivian came available)

The Rivian drives sportier. However, in almost every way it is smaller. The rear interior, height, frunk, and bed are where I noticed it the most. The frunk's loading height was a huge miss by Rivian. The cargo tunnel was definitely cool, as was the built in electronic tonneau (which is plagued by issues for a lot of owners).

She told me I could floor her truck, I obliged. It felt the same (acceleration) as the Lightning, even though I know the Rivian is faster on paper.

Where I was envious is when she has small problems with her Rivian, they remotely log in to her vehicle and fix it. She's had 1 major repair and they come to her. I like having all the Ford service centers but find Ford's customer service severely lacking behind Rivian's.

Size does matter.
Exactly! Let no one be confused, there is only one full size EV pickup on the market. There is a reason the full size half ton crew cab pickup is the best selling config in America. Perfect blend of utility, comfort and people/family hauler.

Rivian is closer to a mid size.
Hummer ( if you even can call it on the market ) is a bloated super truck.

What's even crazier is that the Rivian is significantly heavier.
Thats not entirely true…it’s significantly heavier than a Pro and the SR Lightnings, but not so much when comparing a Platinum or ER Lariat.

My R1T came in on the CAT scales at 6990. I don’t have an ER to weigh but based on some YouTube videos I gathered an ER Lariat came in on the CAT at around 6930lbs…

I ran into a couple of Rivian in the wild, and the size difference is definitely significant.

I gave up on smaller trucks a long time ago. It's hard to give up space where it matters. It's not just the bigger bed, but they lack useful interior storage too. I love the center console on my truck, and the twin glove boxes (they don't even have one, and the center console is tiny).

We don't have that tunnel, but the space in the F-150 rear is massive, including space under the seats.

There are definitely benefits to Rivian's service model, but I also think the grass always seems greener on the other side. Just check out the experience these guys had. And to their credit, they were huge champions of Rivian in the beginning and were even willing to withhold their negative experience until it was fully resolved, but they've just had an overall poor experience.

I watched that and thought to myself how calm he was with all these bad situations. I couldn't imagine going to my truck to go to work or what ever and have it bricked and not loose my mind after spending 70k plus on a new truck.

Then I remembered he has the convenience of a Leaf, and a Tesla to jump into when needed versus most of us left out in the cold with no where to go. Plus he most likely knew he had a gem of a story to tell that would make him some great YouTube money

He also as a Lightning, which he said has essentially been his go-to electric truck. He can't trust his "adventure vehicle" not to leave him stranded.

I know most people here probably won't mind, but I just couldn't live with, even on a short R1T test drive was the inability to disable the regen/1 pedal drive. On the Lightning the non-1PD drive mode is perfect for my uses. Just a tiny bit of regen when coasting that still allows the truck to roll freely, but additional regen when actually applying the brakes. The Rivian's drivetrain lacking any sort of blended braking is likely why there is no way to disable the regen down to a "creep" setting.

Also I know this will also be a non issue for many, but for me the lack of an on/off/start button is particularly disconcerting for me and I know my mom who was previously interested in an R1S was less excited after learning about this. Maybe it's just being used to the convention in gas vehicles, but it's less than comforting knowing there's no physical switch to turn the vehicle on or off.

Overall, I'm very impressed with what the Rivian's offer and I do hope they succeed, more competition is always better, but between the reliability issues, the lack of reparability, the reduced utility and the focus on being a lifestyle vehicle over a utility vehicle means that I know they're not the vehicles for me.

Size does matter.
If size matters, the new Hummer wins.

The size difference between the Rivian and Lighting is similar to the Lighting and the Hummer.

Non one mentioned the Aluminium body on the F150 v/s others sheet metal. Is that not a big up for F150s.
