It's not completely nailed down, but it's a near certainty based on Bronco and other info from Granger/Chapman that dealers with good pricing are going to have more demand than Ford is willing to provide allocations for. Therefore, some people will be forced to buy from dealers with worse pricing in order to get their truck in a timely manner, which means that making sure dealers with bad pricing get trucks anyway takes precedence over reservation timestamp. This is a bigger issue with Bronco because Ford actually promised to build them in order of reservation as much as possible for Bronco, but it's putting an additional constraint on the process that makes finding a dealer difficult.If Ford has decided how they are going to allocate the lightning they have yet to tell anyone. Nobody outside of Ford even knows how many vehicles they are going to attempt to produce.
Nothing and nobody is preventing you from anything as the vehicle isn't available to purchase at the current time. They haven't even been built yet.
You can't just pick a dealer based on price and expect the truck to be built in approximate order of reservation (outside of parts supply variables that no one has any control over).
You have to ALSO know how many reservations they have, where your reservation is in their line, and how many allocations they'll get per year... and then find out that info for any dealer you're considering switching to, and many dealers aren't going to tell you this info.
Hopefully, information on the allocation system becomes clearer, and hopefully dealers become more up front with the information so customers can make more informed comparisons between dealers, BUT if Ford is going to give allocations to dealers with poor pricing anyway, then it's likely in those dealers best interest not to be up front with info... making it hard for consumers to make educated decisions.
