I emailed my local Linex shop with questions about the prep steps they use when applying Linex. Thought it might be useful to others. I imagine that all Linex installers should follow a similar procedure.

(1) We remove the OB power box and spray behind it.
(2) We remove tie downs and bed bolts at customer request.
(3) We tape off the led Lights and remove/reinstall button.
(4) We leave rubber drains plugs in and spray over them.
(5) We will remove tailgate and spray it upon request. It is only a 2 inch border we will spray, Behind that cover is just an open tailgate.
(6) We use 80- grit sand paper to prep the bed sanding just the clear coat only and cleaning the extremely well before spray. we only install the bed of the truck in our booth dropping a plastic wall to separate the cab from the bed.

Thanks for the info.

I’m having a hard time getting a ballpark price for a standard coating of Line X... do you happen to know how much?

Thanks

I was quoted 650 for the premium coating, I think it was 450 for the standard? But that's a 50ish dollar discount applied in each case

I had the premium done in Raleigh, NC mid February and that ran at about $670 (With Tax).

All parts and pieces were removed and reinstalled (Except possibly the tailgate as I still have the factory paint on the bottom side of the tailgate). All lights, buttons, tie downs are functional. No overspray that i could see anywhere on the truck.

All in all much nicer then the drop in liner I had on my 2012.

Mine was $400 for the standard, if you're a AAA member they knocked off $50 I believe

Nice. Thanks. They finally returned my call and here in Toronto it’s going for $575 + tax for the standard spray. I just hope they have experience with the 2021.

Also a side note, I keep hearing people talking about scuffs / scratches with Line X. Are they taking about the product scratching the cargo?

Thanks

Thank you. I think I’ll want the border of the tailgate sprayed as well.

I just called the local one by me and luckily they are the krown people too so it’s only 450 for standard. He said basically no one does the premium one.... would like anyone that has used both to comment.

He also said they just tape off around pro power and tailgate surface. So not sure if these guys are just lazy compared to original post? Should I be demanding they remove and spray behind? Should I remove stuff myself so they don’t strip anything?

So you have the strip below the tailgate that was left bare correct? I thought it was strange so I asked my installer and he said for the 21 tailgate to work properly, it has to be bare.

Right below the plastic bit of the tailgate is covered. The lower edge is not covered (What would be the underside of the tailgate when closed.)
I can try and grab a better pic this weekend for you if need be

Here in the GTA at my local Line X dealer, I was charged $570 + HST.

Everything was sprayed including the bed bolts and appears that major parts were removed. When I asked how come bolts were sprayed, the gentlemen said protection and can be easily accessed with a knife. Took about 2 hours and the tailgate was removed.
