There is so much seemingly random weirdness I experience on a daily basis, I thought I'd document it here. As of the beginning of this thread I am on FordPass 5.0 and I will need to go out to the vehicle to get latest Sync version and add later. This is a 2023 LER with 5.650 miles purchased in Jan 24 and is up to date on all TSB's & CSP's. .

  • 5/29:
    • Vehicle started in guest mode partially, some settings such as steering wheel position were correct others were default. Had to manually switch back to my profile.
    • Startup Carplay audio non-functional. I can see the timer on the playback advancing yet no sound.
      • Resolved by either Sync reboot or toggling phone WiFi off/on (thus severing CarPlay link)
    • CarPlay Bluetooth audio did what I call "through a paper towel roll" audio switch. This issue is consistent yet random but I think has something to do with Wi-Fi interference or something of the like. I will be listening and suddenly the sound switches from full stereo to sounding like it's coming through a tube.
      • Resolved by pausing playback and resuming
    • Today parking sensors did not erroneously light up while leaving my barn. Self-healing? Dried-out?
    • Today it remembered I was last in Sport mode and asked if I'd like to stay there on startup. I can never predict when the truck will remember. I can stop the truck for 5 minutes come back and it will not remember. Or like today, 17 hours dormant, and it remembers.

10% of the time I get the paper towel roll audio. I believe it is just coming through the center channel. When I swap from surround to stereo back to surround, it is fixed.
It is not a carplay thing...for me, simply an audio thing. I've had it happen with XM or carplay.
1% of the time it will start with some random saved stations. Fixes on restart.

Starting in Guest Mode is usually caused by doing a remote start, or now I guess it would be a remote cabin temp. That's why the seat hasn't moved. Just hit the 1 button for the seat control and it will go to your profile. Easier than tapping the screen.

Part of my problem with missing resume "Sport mode" is A.D.D. or I'm on the look out for other spurious WTF moments with the truck, once you and the Lightning 'become one' and you allow yourself to be assimilated all will be better.

I gave up on the Bluetooth audio, works ok most of the time, not all, when parked but driving lots of drop-outs.

Switched to using an FM transmitter between an MP3 player and the FM radio, works well.

Also note that USB sticks only work in my 2023 Lightning Pro with SYNC4 when they are formatted in "exfat" and my USB MP3 players won't work with the USB plug-in, according to some posts, Ford did an over-the-air update (down-date?) and now old MP3 players, like iPods and Zunes will not work through the USB port...call me PO'd.

However, I can get them to work through the FM transmitter interface. My old portable XM Roady works that way as well. Just not happy about all the wires for powering the FM transmitter, the Roady, and the in-output wires between them, plus the Roady antenna wire.

Nobody I know has NOT had trouble with automotive Bluetooth connections no matter what make or model of vehicle.

Quirks I've noticed lately I'm guessing/hoping are part of what I like to think of as "micro-updates". It's like maybe Ford has switched to sending OTA updates that are in preparation for a bigger update like Bluecruise 1.4 and/or the eventual 7.0.0 and beyond but not giving any kind of update notice that anything has changed. It's wishful thinking on my part but it makes sense in my head that they're ensuring all the modules have the updates required before actually making the big changes that warrant an update notice.. guess we'll see.

Specific settings randomly turn on like my backup assist, the EV brake coach, and turning my 4 radio preset rows down to 3. Little annoyances like this have me thinking they're doing something on the backend but who knows.

The mystery of Ford OTA Updates and Software is legendary

Add CarPlay phone calls frequently glitch where I can't hear the person on the other line. If I switch to bluetooth paired calls via the Ford system, the issue is resolved.

Here's one I have had from day 1 (Oct 2022). I typically keep Sync on the Ford Navigation app. Very often when I start the truck, it boots to the app that was previously the most recently used list (radio or trips). Nav is gone, it's not even in the most recently used apps at the bottom. I have to click Apps:Navigation to get it back. It's like it was forced closed.

Very annoying.
