2023 Lightning Lariat ER, 1999 Boxster
My Lightning is going in to the shop (Courtesy Ford in Portland,OR) because the BC 1.4 update seems to have caused a fault. The car tells me it is with the drive system but the Ford folks remotely read the codes and say it is with the charging system. So whom knows. Hopefully they can find out.

I was sorely disappointed that they have no EV loaners in their fleet. Seems like a really missed opportunity, and does not show that they have a lot of hope/faith in EVs. For all the Lightning and Mach-e I am seeeing on the road someone has to be selling a lot of them.

Did you get a loaner at all?

If not, I'd suggest 2 things. First, reach out to the BEV team and see if they want to do anything.

2nd, I'd leave some feedback on their Google maps / Apple Maps page suggesting they rename themselves from Courtesy Ford since their name doesn't appear to match their actions.

My wife's new Flash just had a week at the dealer (only 580 miles on it, $800 repair... I hate mice) and they "gave" her a Mach-e as a loaner. Well, until they found the wires that the mouse chewed up; then it became a rental.

We liked the Mach-e enough, but she was very happy to get back in the truck.

Most ford customers aren’t ev owners/and /or don’t have the charging infrastructure. But some of the good dealerships that do have loaners Is a blessing to get a good loaner. Sometimes it’s good to go back to ICE so you appreciate the lightning more. That is of course if your dealer is taking care of you with a loaner. A dealership that doesn’t invest in loaners is just a dealership who is cutting corners IMO.
If your dealership doesn’t have a loaner then 1) you may not like your lightning as much 2) think twice about your future purchase and make sure they will have a loaner for you. I am blessed enough to own a company that has 15 ford vehicles thru the same ford dealer and buy multiple a year so they do take care of me. If I bought a ford once every 10 years I’m not sure so sure and would travel an hour find a good ford dealer that had a bunch of Loaners.

2024 Lightening Flash
My Lightening dealer, Casco Bay Ford in Maine recently provided me a Lightning Lariat loaner for as long as needed for recall inspection on my 2024 Flash. Vehicle passed and in a few hours I returned it but was impressed I didn’t even have to request this. In Maine, Ford dealers are very inconsistent. Some hate EVs while others have changed with the times. I did my research and went with one that had many chargers installed, plentiful inventory and technicians who work on EVs everyday. Despite being an hour away from home, for me the rare travel is worth the peace of mind. Dealerships closer to my home were not EV friendly and I didn’t want to give them my business. Ford needs to work on dealership consistency with common standards and expectations.
