1. Release the lower seat lift up a little
2. Using a wrench reach back and pull up the nub on the latch.
3. I 3d printed a piece to attach to the nub, this is only a first edition will make changes and a better strap
Close back and then lower bottom.

This is only a test as there is a part that can be purchased for $40 but its not needed.

Time to work on a better strap as I thought I had some paracord but could not find for this picture.

I don't understand what I am looking at here. Is this under the drivers seat?

Click Rick’s link. It explains it all.
OP, in step 1, you do not need to “release” the lower seat to lift up.

This is behind the upper part of the seat. The passenger side has a strap to access the jack. But drivers side does not have a strap, unless something is done.

I found it easier before adding the piece, when you life up the bottom it creates more of a gap so you can look down and did the nub to hook the wrench onto. But yea once it is set it no longer needs to be done.

Sorry, I agree lifting the seat makes it easier. I’m just saying you don’t have to release it to lift it. You just lift it.
Your step 1 should just say “Lift the lower seat bottom a little “.
Guarantee someone will ask how to release the seat bottom to lift up. The release tab on the bottom seats is only to lower, not to raise.

I agree that lifting the seat to access storage easier and more convenient, but at times like when transporting a large box or some such object, it is more convenient to have the seatback fold down so you can use the entire width of the back seat space. Especially if you have those storage trays below the seats (moving them is a huge pain).

I just don’t understand why Ford wouldn’t make that folding capability as a standard feature. Why do they need to “hide” that feature in such a way that you have to “manufacture“ a work around. The hinge is there, so why not use it? You can operate the 40% side, why not the 60% side? What would it cost for to add an extra strap to that mechanism, a buck or so?

I salute you guys that know how to 3D print things and are creating new solutions to age-old problems.
Well done!!

I agree so strange why they don't have it especially on the models that don't have the sub back there. The companies that charge 20 to 40 dollars are quite high i think.

Cool, never new and was annoyed when I got it last month. After searching I found a company that makes it bit know i could do it.
One thing to remember is that many of the components of a Lightning are also in F-150s, and they have a) been around for a long time and b) have many hundreds of thousands more owners. The F-150 forums are a great resource for mods. Like "what tonneau cover", which of course isn't unique to a Lightning.

How much storage space does this actually add? I’ve watched the linked videos but I can’t imagine what I’d keep back there. Any plans for what you’d use it for?

With the subwoofer back there, probably won't want to put much back there. BUT, if something you REALLY need immediately drops back there, then would be nice to be able to pop the seat latch and just grab and go. That's why I will install my latch before my next camping trip.

I bought the Builtright device on Amazon. Just installed it last week. The problem with using the wrench head was all I could feel on mine was the rivet at the top of the slot and not the latch bar. I cracked the one on the passenger side and looked at where/what I needed to move and them managed to reach down blindly and find the latch bar and pull it up. And you will never reach it if you don’t lift the seat bottom up to slightly tilt the seat back forward. Once you have it open it easy to understand how it works. A piece of paracord and wooden handle at the top to keep it from falling behind the seat back would work but the Builtright is a more elegant solution.
Also what are those straps on the back cab firewall for? I looked it the manual and its still a mystery.

The straps on the back are for car seats.
