I just took this picture at the NY Auto Show. Lariat ER.

I think that's the same as the one in the video in the post above. I wonder what explains the 1425 to 1625 lb discrepancy since they're both Lariat ERs? Maybe it's a preproduction thing.

Good call, I paused the video and it is definitely the same VIN number. I can’t think of any options on a Lariat ER that would explain a 200lb difference in payload, maybe the Max Tow Package. The vehicle at the show had the spray in bedliner.

Remember - For a fair comparison to an ICE truck maximum payload you need to factor in the hundreds of pounds of gas that a full ICE 36 gallon tank may carry. My battery will weigh basically the same all the time. :)
Payload is the maximum amount of passengers and cargo a vehicle can carry with a full fuel tank. Gas does not count toward payload.

Trust me, guys, the truck doesn’t fall apart if you go a few hundred pounds over the payload limit. ;)

Most lightnings will be equipped with on-board scales. I wonder if payload is one of the variables stored on the event data recorder or in the cloud?

Although I always strive to observe weight ratings, I also know that occasionally overloading by a few hundred pounds isn’t going to do any harm.

Speed is definitely in the event data recorder and you know how people observe speed limits.

Overloading does have it's limits though. I once transported almost 2800 lbs of landscaping stone in a early 2000's Pontiac Grand Prix. Thankfully I didn't have far to go! Shocks were bottomed right out.

I'm sure it is. Denying warranty claims makes them money, anything they can put in their quiver, they likely will. Especially considering that data storage is effectively unlimited with connected vehicles. That's not going to stop me from putting 1800 pounds in the truck if I need to. I accept the associated risks.

The Lariat Lightning in the video with a 1625 pound payload has a GVWR sticker with 8550 pounds.

The other Lariat Lightning ER has a GVWR of 8400 pounds and a payload of 1452 pounds.

I'm not sure what triggers the difference in GVWR. I thought only the Platinum had the highest GVWR but this pre-production Lariat also has the higher GVWR. Perhaps Max Tow adds some GVWR capacity?
