Reserved within first 15 minutes, but dealer just told me I won't get a Lightning until 2023.

I understand and I have had my share of frustrations with Tesla. But they have never outright lied to me or tried to deceive me. I think their issues are more with bad communication and not providing realistic expectations. Overall my experience has been good with them and I LOVE Tesla cars. I think there is a sincerity and integrity that is baked into their company culture and I think the exact opposite is true of the legacy auto industry
Lying and deceit are the cornerstones of Capitalism. Information imbalance is one of the top way to earn money (maybe behind rent seeking).

I'm following all this with great interest. I think I've lucked into making some good choices but would appreciate advice about what to do next.
My story - ordered a few hours late on 5/19. 10836071 is my number. Named my local Ford Dealer. Reached out to them in December asking about additional dealer markup, which they ignored. Switched to a nearby EV focused Ford Dealer who told me in email that no ADM.

Went by the dealer in early January and at that point I was in their expected allocation of 25 Lightnings but didn't get a number on their list at that point. Did sit on modern vinyl seats and I liked them a lot - the Pro is the way to go for me with a couple upgrades -Trailering and the 9.6Kw power upgrade so I can do the 80Amp charging and buy the inverter so I can use the truck as automatic failover power. Total price including destination under $45K so I qualify for half off sales tax in WA State on EVs.

What do I do now to figure out if I'll get a truck this year? Harass the dealer? I have no idea about what the priority stuff is that's been talked about - I assume it's a way for a dealer to adjust the order of the list but never found a clear explanation on that. My dealer is committed to no ADM so at least that's not part of how they'll determine who gets a truck.

Oh, BTW I optioned a Hybrid with AWD CrewCab shortbed and the power and trailering upgrade to get as close as possible to the Pro as I configured it. No tax rebate of course. $50k. So well over $10K above the Pro as I optioned it.

Advice welcome on what I should ask my dealer or try to get them to do for me so I can figure out if I'll get into another wave this year.

You didn’t actually order a truck on 5/19, you merely reserved one. Dealers were given the opportunity in December to prioritize aka let later reservations skip in line ahead of us 5/19 reservation holders. Actual ordering is going on right now, waves every two weeks, next probably on 2/17. Your dealer should be able to tell you, if they feel like telling you
-whether they prioritized
-what your spot in their line is.
Even if you don’t get to order during one of the next three waves you’ll be one of the first to order for MY 2023 with delivery later this year or early 23 since you have a first day reservation. The Pro you wanted is already sold out for 2022 anyway. Hope this helps, good luck with everything!

Since you want the PRO, wait patiently, actually hope you do not get an opportunity just yet, wait until model year 23 opens and by then you will have gotten a MY-23 wave offer with this dealer.

You are basically screwed like all of us. Dont waste your time. Ford has engineered a no win situation for all buyers by giving all purchasing discretion to their dealers. Ford is just a bunch of corrupt and incompetent criminals.

I can't prove it but pretty sure some dealers are scamming this deal.

Good news! My dealership actually emailed me, out of the blue.

The bad news is I'm one of the many here who reserved in the first 15 minutes and somehow ended up way down the list at the dealership. I don't know how many reservations this dealership has but the guy said I'm 20th on the list and they were told they are getting 5 for the year. So I'm out of luck.

I agree with the general sentiment that a more "fair" system would be to go by reservation timestamp and let those people choose their dealerships. The musical chairs thing is frustrating.

Perhaps if every dealership absolutely must get something and have flexibility, maybe give each dealership a truck or two to offer to their customers of choice, completely outside of the reservation system.

The prioritization allotments seem to be too much of the expected 2022 builds.

I agree--i wish they would have given fewer priority slots to the dealers. It's ridiculous that someone with the earliest time stamp at a dealer could miss out on a MY22 because of the priority list.

That said, zero would have been a better number for priority slots but I understand that they're trying to keep their dealers happy.

Is there anything preventing Ford from allowing dealers to prioritize customers for their 2023 orders similar to the way many people got screwed out of 2022 orders?

If Ford uses the same process next year, we could be waiting a very long time in line behind VIPs who cut straight to the front year after year.

As t this point I'm really thinking my Rivian reservation will come through far quicker than my Ford reservation even though I ordered early on 5/19.

The leaked playbook says that 2022 reservations that didn’t get the order invite will be filled in MY 2023 “in reservation order” when 2023 ordering opens this summer. No guarantee that Ford will stick to it, but at least they’ve put their intention to do better this time around in writing. Fingers crossed!

With that, all you folks waiting in the wings for MY23, pay very close attention to the NO-ADM Markup thread and conversations about which dealers in your state or region are playing fair, as YOU have the easy ability to select the dealer of your choice as you begin the build of your truck, if your default dealer has been proven to be shady, change to who will serve you best.

DO NOT click the confirmation button until "You are satisfied" about the facts of your order, does it meet your expectations, to quote a sales phrase from the good old days "You Will Be Satisfied" {Bob Tasca Sr.} hopefully the old man is not rolling in his grave knowing what we're experiencing now.
