San Hima Roof Top Tent

I'm thinking about buying the San Hima Hotham RTT and was curious to find out if anyone here has purchased one for their Lightning.

I have a low profile bed rack and would mount about 4 inches over the bed and behind the cab. I guess my main concern is the length at 84". Should I worry about it extending past the tailgate a foot for any reason?

Also, anyone find significant range loss with a RTT?

Keep in mind that the Lightning is an F-150 with a 5.5' bed, the most popular pickup in America. You might find better success on one of the F-150 forums. Although I was on the biggest one for a decade, and I never heard of this product.

I have been considering a similar setup. I don't really like the overhang. I have thought about a clamshell type like the Jervis, to avoid the overhang. I like the SanHima x hotham. Seems like it might be nice to use the truck slider to route from the cab.

Don’t have that brand, but have one and love it.

Mine is mounted just above the bed and have no impact to range. The extension behind the gate is a problem for spacial awareness when backing as the BLISS will think you have more distance then you do have.

The other issue is stability on the tent if you have it “flush” with the back of the cab as there is a bit of a cantilever. Not a deal breaker but does make it move a little more especially if entering from the tailgate side.

I think I would mount similarly as you have if I pull the trigger. Thanks for the insight.

One more question, do you leave it on the truck full time or do you take it on and off when you go camping?

I would like to leave it on at least for the warmer months vs the hassle of removing it.

Originally I planned on taking it off during the winter, but ended up leaving it on. Since we don’t get that cold (except this year as it seems to be below freezing more) I was able to use it into early November with a 0 degree bag. And plan to start using it next month again.

If I bought the racks again, I would target ones that are the 4-6” rise but other then that love it.

If you are worried about the weight with people and it bouncing, I cut emt conduit and put rubber leg caps on it and place them in the bed once set up to have a more rigid setup when there is two people in it.
