I think that is why the little lightening bolt tab. It prevents you from pushing fold down button. If needing to fold down shifter, just remove cubby.

remove it dear liza, dear liza! It's nicely designed that it covers the button to lower the shifter and one has to remove the cubby to access the button!

Got it. I didn't notice the button blocking tab at first. Looks like a pretty rough 3D print. Maybe they will get better.

I wish we didn't need that big-ass shifter. Why can't I 'stow' the shifter and open my big lunch table while I'm driving? Just replace the shifter with a button like in the old Valiant or Barracuda!

Switch to the rotary style. Pretty straightforward swap. Then that whole area becomes storage.

Some of these mods y'all do seems crazy to me, but to each his own. Lots of people on the Maverick forum hate the rotary shifter, and the 2025 MME dropped it for a steering stalk shifter. Just goes to show you that no matter what the design is, some people are not going to like it.

I’ll go back to my old Saab with 4 on the stick and pull out and down to “2nd” for Reverse. I did like the free wheeling clutch on that car, kind of the opposite of 1PD
