2023 Lightning XLT ER
-Pro is substantially cheaper, despite little difference in features/functionality
-Pro was available for fewer waves than the XLT
-People hoping for Pro would probably be less likely to jump up to a Lariat when their preferred trim was unavailable vs people who were planning on XLT.
Agree on all points.

The SR XLT just got a bad break due to the Pro's needing to be sub $40k for marketing purposes.

A Lariat was too pricey for me and the ER was priced way too high.

It was Pro or nothing for me.

I'm hoping the inability to extend the reservation is only for the Wave 1 &2 orders who had already extended. It makes sense. But if the lower trim levels aren't available and the rest of the 180,000 reservation holders essentially get the boot because they can't afford a Lariat or higher, that will be a press nightmare one would think... we shall see.

I hope that doesn't happen, but I think Pro reservation holders could be waiting a LONG time. Ford built a few hundred for MY22, and they're supposedly not delivering any more until Autumn 2023, so I imagine they're not building many for MY23, either, since they're supposedly not building many until the end of the model year. So, let's say they let 5k Pro reservation extenders order for MY23. That's just a guess, but I doubt it's WAY low. It may be high.

So, that would be 5500 Pros total through MY23, presumably. If we assume an equal number of each trim was the desired choice for each reservation holder (probably low for Pro because it's the cheapest and the best value), that would be 50k Pro reservation holders. And through MY23, near the end of calendar year 2023, they will have build about ~10% of that. Obviously production is increasing, but if I had an August 2021 Pro reservation or something, 2nd gen Pro might be becoming more realistic at this point. Or having to go up to a more expensive trim.

I hope I'm wrong, but Ford definitely is trying to make as few retail Pros as possible for the foreseeable future, and trying to push people into picking higher trims by several means. It's a reasonable business decision, but the Pro is going to continue to be borderline unobtainium for quite a while still, IMO.

true: as far as we know, my PRO is the only one in GEORGIA, at least for retail, and certainly only a few handful of IcedBlueSilver in the country, which we now know makes for a very selective few 'classic' first-model-year vehicles in the far future. It's a color no longer offered. Crazy.

yes, and the fact that I may be the ONLY Lightning PRO in Georgia until possibly this time next year is even crazier!

Why do you believe you’re the only retail Pro in Georgia? That seems like a bit of a stretch.

Ford told the wave 1 people to expect delivery in autumn 2023. For did not say they would not produce a single Pro before that.

My money says that Ford will be making some Pros all year. The lucky ones will take delivery early in the year and the unlucky ones will be waiting til fall. Since wave 1 comprised all the Pros they were willing to build for the whole year, it makes sense they wouldn't put a date any earlier than the end of the MY23 production run.

I know most people in here are looking for PROs but I got screwed by my dealer and couldn’t order an ER earlier in the year and they made me extend my reservation. I just got word from said dealer that this special offer will come off at the time of purchase but the MSRP will still be the same (+80k for any ER lightnings) so no ER lightnings will qualify for the tax credit in 2023. Depressing if true, I’ll just order a XLT SR with no options and probably sell it within a year due to low range before values drop. Big let down from ford.

Ford has not said that was all the Pro's they were willing to build. For all we know...Wave 2 was just not allowed to change their mind and downgrade their reservation extension choice to Pro.

I hate to burst your bubble, you are not the only Pro in Georgia (unless there is literally 1 Ford dealer in the whole state and no one else at that one dealer ordered one), and the Iced Blue Silver was one of the most popular color choices for MY22 (so a handful isn't accurate). I also don't think the Pro would every be considered a classic. This is a first gen EV truck (of which millions will be made with the same body and everything), not a late 60's fastback Mustang.

this is true

thr special pricing is special pricing, not a modified MSRP

No ER lightnings will qualify for the tax credit in 2023 (with one theoretical exception)

However, bare in mind that absent the new bill there were going to be relatively few qualifying for the full $7,500 in ‘23 anyway, and none in ‘24

Specifically, if the new bill were not passed then in ‘23:

• In Q1, an ER would qualify for $7,500

• InQ2, an ER would qualify for a max $3,750

• InQ3-4, an ER would qualify for a max $1,875

• In 2024 onward, an ER would have no credits

Don’t get me wrong, even $1,875 is nice to have, and $3,750 is twice as nice. But in terms of “lost tax credits” in ‘23 it’s not as though ER’s are going from $7,500 all year instead to $0. That’s only true for folks who take delivery in Q1.

Note also that the same is true of SR trucks - so long as folks aren’t over the income limits and Ford sorts out it’s battery componentry qualifications, SR buyers are getting a good uplift of the new bill. ,

Agreed. I’m able to order now though so I would assume I would be taking delivery in Q1. They say autumn 2022 in which I could order a Lariat ERbut if it happens to come January 1st I’m out 7500. I would qualify for the tax credit as well. The higher MSRP also puts me out of my states $2500 rebate for EVs under 60k. Super frustrating Ford can’t give us 22 MSRP prices but at the same time at least they are allowing us the special offer. Just wish I knew when my truck would be delivered if I put my order through today, 2022 or 2023.

I mean, I think it's likely there's more than one Pro in Georgia, BUT for each dealer, only ONE person was in MY22 Wave 1, sometimes zero, so there's only a MAX of 1 Pro per dealer delivered so far.

There are 125 Ford dealers in GA, though, so I would *think* there's more than one Pro so far, but who knows.

What are the chances this current wave (ordering by September 5th) will take delivery this year? Says autumn 2022 delivery. I’d like to order a Lariat ER that’s over 80k but if it’s not delivered until 2023 it won’t qualify for the new tax credit, so I’ll just order a SR XLT.
