What bulb type do the projector headlights have?

I find them very dim and also I loathe the shadow that is created between the high/low beams. On the freeway at night it makes driving way more difficult because there is a gap in the lighting on the road. I have never had a car with headlights like this. The brights always overlap the low beams.

I want brighter bulbs and a way to adjust down the high beams.

I have searched fords site after entering my VIN, and the site doesn’t list a bulb type or part number.

All third party sites seem to only reference converting reflector housings to led.

seems I am going to have to pull the bulb myself and look at it.

I'm assuming you have a 502A+truck since you said projector. If that's the case, it's an integrated LED and you can't change it out.

If 502a, you have full led projectors. You do not have bulbs but built in projector diodes. Maybe you could realign your fog lights to make up the gap?

If the diode ever needs to be replaced, do you have replace the entire headlight assembly - or can only the diode be replaced?

That is very unfortunate. The LEDs that ford used suck. They are incredibly dim. And the alignment is horrendous. I actually am not a fan of driving at night with these.

maybe I can look into soldering in new LEDs

I am surprised. I love mine. Obviously we are different people and have different likes and dislikes, I just really think they are great. I really had my first chance to drive at night for a long trip and was very impressed with them. Most everyone Ive talked to about them thinks they are fantastic.

Maybe you can try the glare free programming mod first to see if that satisfies you.. It basically puts the light in high beam and controls the beam as to not blind drivers and oncoming traffic. This programming is how these trucks are shipped in Canada so it is not an experimental thing it just wasnt approved at the time for US>

It is only a few changes to make in programming and it may improve it enough for you,.

I have zero issues with the light output of the projector LEDs. Either something is wrong with your lights or you have unreasonably high expectations of vehicle lighting. There are very few vehicles out that have the top IIHS rating for headlights and the projector LEDs received that rating.

I am comparing to our q5, and the difference is stark. Clean light output from the q5. High beam pattern perfectly overlaps lows to put out tons of light in front of the car with no “shadows”, and the lights are brighter as well.
I know Audis are build much better but I guess I didn’t expect an issue with the headlights like this.

I love the truck though! It’s the details. Someone probably made a choice to save $0.30 per headlight by using a slightly inferior diode…

Good thing you didn't get the halogens.

I am picky about headlights…if you didn’t notice, haha. I didn’t even consider buying a truck without at least the projector LEDs.

I'm picky too though apparently not quite so much; I chose the minimum trim level to get LED reflectors (302A). Despite the "Acceptable" IIHS rating, they are at least as good as the projectors on our 2018 CX-5 which were rated "Good" at the time. But the auto-high beams work better on the Mazda.
