Windshield defect?

I had the exact same damage to my windshield and roof on my 21 F150 Platinum, about two weeks after purchase in 2021. I knew it was a rock as I watched it fall from a dumptruck a few hudreds yards ahead of me and saw it strike. It was extremely loud also.

It’s crazy because we were on a paved country road nobody else around and then heard this loud BOOM! It must be an impact of some sort based in what everyone is saying but man, I can’t figure out what hit us!

Walnut or Hickory Nut from tree lining the road maybe .

For what it's worth, just had my windshield replaced on my 23 Lariat after a rock fell off a cement truck. Only glass damage. Had the truck less than a month, didn't even have plates. Replaced at the dealership for $1260 including calibration. The dent in the roof is the wildcard for you. Hopefully didn't warp/damage where the new windshield seats. Sorry that happened to you and not even knowing what the hell caused it.

These windshields seem very fragile. 3500 miles in, and I have pebble damage twice. First one repaired by Safelite, this one I am gonna try, as it is pretty small.

OP was hit by rock and dented roof...

Repairs are usually 100% free by insurance company.

Every new car forum says their windshields are "fragile".

Just going by my 40 years of owning other vehicles. 2 spots damaged in 8 months is troubling.
