Has anyone else had their phones (whatever brand/model) overheat while using the wireless charging pad? I’ve received notification 3 times over the last week that my phone is getting too hot while using Apple CarPlay and the wireless charging pad. The cabin temp is set to 68 - 72. When I pick up my phone (iPhone 12 Pro Max) it is indeed VERY hot.

I’m not sue why this is occurring as I use my phone with two other off-brand wireless chargers and don’t have any problems whatsoever. I can’t figure out what would make the pad in the Lightning any different.

Leaving the “lid” open for the compartment seems to help a little, but not much.

Thoughts?

Is it possible that the CarPlay is causing too much heat? Try it without charging, and then try it plugged into a USB.

So far I can't get my iPhone to charge on the wireless charger. Have not messed with it much, just got the truck yesterday. I've put it on there twice and turned it around, but nothing would ever start charging.

The solution to this is to use no case on your phone or a MagSafe approved case . Remember wireless charging is also always slower than usb - c so there isn’t much of a point . Also it puts your phone in a dumb position compared to a Tesla.

I was thinking the same thing-laying sideways. I know there are USB ports in that same cubby, but truly I need to open the console (I haven't yet) and dig around. If there is a USB in there I'll just add cables. I don't need to usually charge in the truck, but if I do I need a decent amount quick. Or heck, I'll plug a 110 fast charger right in the dash.

The options are truly endless in this truck.

This has been brought up before.

It doesn't matter if you use Android Auto or Carplay.
It doesn't matter if you have a case.
It doesn't matter what brand or model phone you have.
It doesn't matter if the console lid is open or closed.

Your phone will get hot, and it will charge very slow, using the wireless charging pad. I never use the pad in my current Ford vehicles, and I don't plan on using it unless there is an emergency.

My configuration is my iPhone 13 Pro Max plugged into the usb-c port in the center console and then it just kind of hangs out on top. I’m using wireless CarPlay that way . Inside that little cubby with the wireless charger, I have an android mmb ( multimedia player to stream Netflix etc . ) permanently plugged into the usb c port using a 3 inch usb- c to c cable . Check out another thread I did if you want to learn more about the android mmb .
