I was a second day reservation holder who gave up my reservation in January this year (I could go on and on about how Ford P.O. a long time loyal Ford customer). I wanted a truck with an ER battery, the tow technology and max trailer tow packages, and the spray in bed liner. With these options an XLT was coming in at about $85k and a Lariat at about $88k. At the time I gave up my reservation I wasn’t sure if a Lightning was a real truck or a luxury automobile disguised as a pickup truck.

After the July Lightning price cuts I re-entered the market and purchased a neighboring state dealer’s well equipped Lariat ER mannequin. This truck had the three options I was looking for and a few others as well. I bought the truck with 5k miles on it for about $10k less than if I ordered it the same way from Ford today.

I am very happy with my Lightning. It pulls my 3500 pound boat and trailer much better than my XLT did, and the trailer pulling range penalty is only about 30%, not much different from my ICE XLT. My right foot is made of flesh and blood, not lead, and I am having no difficulty meeting the range estimates for an ER. I really like the 360 camera system because it allows me to get into tight spaces I wouldn’t try with out it. While I would have preferred that it was an extended cab instead of a crew cab because I find the longer bed would have been an advantage for me, but Lightnings only come with crew cabs.

Is my Lightning a luxury automobile or pickup truck? Well, its both. It can do everything I want my truck to do (except haul long boards), but it has many comforts that I appreciate at this stage of my life.

I’ve tried Ford’s cooled leather seats. Kind of feels like sitting down on a wet park bench, and having the water soak through your pants all the way to your skin. That clammy wet feeling is what you get, for spending the premium to get cooled leather seats. It’s not even close to the comfort of cold blowing A/C, in hot humid climates.
Oh there are certainly better cooled seats out there, not saying it's the best here. But in comparison between the Pro seats and Lariat seats, it's better to have the ventilated than not. You still sweat and get muggy in the Pro seats, difference is it's a heck of a lot easier to precondition/cool down the seats with ventilated seats vs non-ventilated - before you sit in them. Once you're in them the seats make more noise than it's worth.

Sounds to me like you already know which truck is for you.

Just buy it already!
