So, mr2urbo004 and I have been exploring what it would take to add the 240V,7.2kW inverter to the lightning to upgrade to the "Pro Power Onboard 9.6kW"

Ref: https://www.f150gen14.com/forum/threads/7-2-progen-missing.10245/page-2

I'm curious if anyone has done this or explored it for the Lightning? The truck I've used as an AB Config reference for all the OEM mods I've done has at some point caused my APIM to think I have it when I really don't. This causes a weird display on the Pro Power screen:

Ford F-150 Lightning Installing Pro Power Onboard 9.6kW Inverter - OEM 1687300738914

Last night was the first night we've been without grid power since I've had the truck almost a year. I hooked the truck up to my house to power fridge, lights, nat-gas continuous hot water, etc. I am suddenly wanting the 240V pro power to run my AC :) Not an issue for me for heat as my furnace is nat-gas, but sleeping hot sucks. So, here is my window sticker.

Is my terminology correct here in that we should be referencing this equipment as "Pro Power Onboard Standard" and "Pro Power Onboard 9.6kW" related to the Lightning, even though we are really only adding a 7.2kW,240V inverter to upgrade to the 9.6kW? My OCD is not compatible with Ford and terminology a lot of the times. Aside from any wires or coolant hookup it looks like only 2 parts are needed for this upgrade are:

The Inverter, $1,574.05:

jdmackes can you please post a pic of your window sticker so I can pull your AB and see how it is listed and check the module info.

As much as I am in the same boat and would like to have this option I don’t think it makes sense for a home back up option for the added cost. For roughly the same $1k you could get a generator that backs up your house and would charge the truck.

Yea, but generators are just so stinky and loud. I've been powering my house with my 2.4kW pretty much fine, but this upgrade would give me 240V for my HVAC, AC, as it's mid 90's and our power in Tulsa is looking like it will be out for a full week. I have a free Level 3 charger just 10min from my house and I'd charge there for an hour every day after work if I could sleep with AC :)

Plus, I thought you wanted to be able to charge other EV's? Level 1 charging is a joke as you know.

For that it would make sense. For me my closest L3 charger is an hour away and still costs money.

Here is my window sticker, I also have a print out of my parts list from the factory, although it doesn't seem to show everything. I can upload that too if you'd like

my home AC is on a 50 amp circuit. are you sure you wouldnt just overload the 30 amp circuit

You need a HVAC soft start to not overload the system when it start and it will be fine after that.

I have harnessed the full power of the battery pack in connecting it to my T-Rex Range Extending Trailer. I could install a 20kw inverter and run a couple houses. haha
We just want to use the existing battery to get 240v @ 7.2 or 9.6kw. Can we do that with the harness you are using?

I've found that having other loads running (motors especially) helps give inverters stability and a bit of momentum to start other loads. It's similar to the concept of the grid, your neighbors running motors actually help start your motors and vice versa.

Im not using a harness. My installation is custom. With what I am doing I could use any DC to AC inverter.
James, I see what looks to be a high voltage junction point just in front of the rear axle on the passenger side. Is that where you tapped into the HV?

I assume the 7.2kW, 240V inverter just plugs into this. That would mean it's HV connection would be really simple. Same for the additional 40A onboard charger if anyone wanted to add that.

Messing with 400volts DC is like Russian roulette. You can die the first time or the last time, your choice. Plus you now own the truck without any warranty. For most, that is a $80k giveaway.

This is a good PSA, but I'm an EE and I work with high voltage all the time. Also, adding factory features does not void your warranty. In the same way as replacing a part doesn't void your warranty. Also repairs done by a competent mechanic or owner do not void warranty either. For instance, if you had a minor wreck and fixed the vehicle including wiring, this does not void your warranty unless there is a direct and obvious link to the repair and the part failure in question. This is the reason it's advisable to use all OEM parts, plugs, wiring, etc.

Chill out Grumpy, he's not making DIY's. It's pretty cool that he was able to make it work :)
