Today, I took a day trip and when I started the day, I was not sure if I had to use a DCFC to get back so I drove a bit conservatively. I was pleased by the results (2.8 mi/KWh). That made me think we need a thread so we can share tips and tricks to stretch the range so if we are in a bind, we know how to make it to a charging station. To make it fun, I am challenging you guys to beat my 2.8 number. I may edit rules of the game as you guys comment on what make sense. For now, I try to keep it simple so it does not turn people off:
1 - The trip must end where it starts - this should minimize the impact of altitude change and wind if it is a short trip. Remember to reset your trip 1 or trip 2 before you start so you can get the round trip on your screen.
2 - Minimum trip length is 20 miles round trip but longer distance is better to even out the impact of variables.
3 - post a screen shot of trip energy page
4 - share details of the trip and any tips and tricks you used to improve the results.
ofcourse this is honor system and photoshopping results to make it to hall of fame may not help others learn something here.
My trip was all in the same day. Going up in AM, temps were in 70s coming back in PM in 80s. 40 miles of the trip was on highway and I was keeping it around 68 mph. The rest was scenic routes in which I rarely went above 58. I had zero weak moments with accelerator pedal and my break score was high 90s and more often 100. when my windows were up, the fan (but not AC) was on. When all windows were down, the fan was off. My mirrors were folded for 15 minutes at 50 mph. Stereo was on the whole time. Phone charging was less than 20 minutes. I used AC for less than 10 minutes. I thought I charged to 100% but it said 99% when I left. I came back with 33% on a standard pack.
Please bookmark this page and when you get to it, try to show me if you are man enough to stand up to the old lady honking behind you in her Prius and beat the thread record.
