Might be a dumb question, but how do we know what version we should be on and what version we are on?

Like you I've had this problem for 2 months, as has everyone else. Although there's no drivability issues, with the truck, you're right this shouldn't be going on, and Ford should have notified us of the failure issue. Instead of leaving us all in the dark trying to figure out what's going on on our own. Just a message in Ford pass could have been nice. Especially since the dealers have also been left in the dark about the situation. With any luck it sounds like you're truck should be back in action next week. Please let us know if they are successful at updating your truck. Thanks
Just got back from AutoNation. The service manager attempted 2 manual updates. Both failed. He is contacting Ford to determine next steps. He said he would need Ford authorization for APIM replacement. I will update as updates are received.

I inquired to my selling dealer. He told me OTA 1.7.1 had failed twice.

If @Fordmotorcompany doesn't come up with a fix for this OTA failure soon. I'm going to take on the problem myself, turn on the truck, open the rear slider, in settings hit about sync, press tailgate release. Jump in the bed of the truck with my favorite shotgun and fire directly through the back window. I think double OO should get it done efficiently, but if anyone can suggest a better round, I'd like to hear your ideas.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into things on my end. Thanks!
This is a joke, Ford needs to get this fixed and now their saying late April before they will have a fix.

I think my 1.7.1 failed enough it just stopped trying.
Yes Ford OTA technical support told me 1.7.1 OTA has expired and will not be pushed via. OTA any longer. But guess what! Our dealers will be able to install it for us. Just fxcking great, now I have to go to the inept dealer when they finally put a fix together and hope the tech is able to apply it without bricking my truck. Ford should send us all a USB stick tailored to our vin that we can plug in and update ourselves.

What a mess. My Lightning reservation apparently means close to nothing to Ford since dealers were permitted to let VIPs cut the line and place orders before people who reserved first, so I've been trying to decide whether I should wait another year or more for my Lightning, buy a Powerboost instead, or wait for the Rivian I preorderd.

Reading this really pushes me farther from ordering a Lightning or a Powerboost and close to buying the Rivian.

Between the massive markups, long waits for trucks, failed updates, and difficulty obtaining service on their newest vehicles, Ford has really botched a lot of their new vehicle releases.

I'm very happy with my 5.0 and Ford does have a 120 years of building vehicle's under there belt so the mechanicals are good. They absolutely suck on the software side of things though, there living in the stone age of tech.. As for Rivian they may be good with technology but there downside could be the mechanicals of the truck. Also ford has unbelievable tracking as to your trucks exact build as far as part revisions so down the road spares are easily available. When Tesla started virtually every day they were revising parts and at the end of the day replacement parts for some early builds were not available that would be my fear of Rivian.
Good luck whichever way you go!

Those are certainly important factors to consider. It's why I'm still holding both reservations. Maybe I'll take which comes first... Lightning or Rivian. Or maybe I'll eventually give up and keep my old F150 another few years. I'm so indecisive.

No shame in holding onto the F150 a little longer. I been buying Ford trucks since 1978 and I always feel like I've betrayed and old friend when I move on. I wish I could have kept them all looking back now. But money and space didn't allow that. Plus these car companies are in turmoil right now with chip, part shortages and there dealer pricing is out of control.

They are aware, just poor at communicating to customers about it. There should be a letter going out to customers about the fix soon.
Any ideas what actions a customer will make when they get the letter? Go to the dealer, wait patiently for the OTA, something else?
