We all must take responsibility for our safety and the safety of others on the road. Ford has dropped the ball on this issue, but as I have demonstrated there is a work around for only $139 to have a reliable and safe trailer brake controller pending Ford's fix.

It makes no sense to drive around with a trailer brake controller that fails without warning but for a fix that now days costs about as much as filling the fuel tank once.

Oh come, now. Nobody mentions lawyers picking around and billion dollar settlements without intending to conjure up fear. And I wouldn’t be too hasty to conclude that the thinking has changed all that much since the 70s. You said it yourself—this brake controller issue has been around for a long time and nobody has died. So, as things stand right now, the cost of a full engineering study and repair would be immediate and non-speculative and probably expensive given the number of trucks Ford sells annually. By contrast, the cost of litigation is speculative and relatively low— because nobody’s died. Meet the new boss. . . .
It seems the only thing that can move big companies these days is social media. Maybe if the folks in this thread DM, reply, retweet both Ford and Jim Farley on a regular basis, and/or get some of the bloggers, Ford Authority, TFL, or USA Today to write pieces, it will get some attention ?

Because social media has become such an important part of people’s individual lives, it gives them an exaggerated sense of their own importance and impact on the real world. It doesn’t have as much of an ability to move companies as you might think.

If you want to get a corporation’s attention and effect real change, band together and file complaints with regulators—like the NHTSA. The government, despite all its faults, still has the power to force a company to do something. Corporations hate regulators and are actually afraid of them if the complaints are numerous and have substance. But the government has to have a reason to take action.

Guys there’s a new recall out for this issue. 22S17. It’s only a reprogram

Nope. Just the technology. And since there’s a NHTSA number assigned to the campaign, lawyers had nothing to do with it.
Gotcha!

I don't see that on mine and nothing when google searching the campaign or nhtsa #. Any additional details ?

I’ve got a copy of the service procedure for the recall. Nothing interesting except some inconsistent terminology. My truck has a module called the TRM that I updated earlier this month, the service procedure refers to something called the ITRM (Integrated Trailer Relay Module), but everything else lines up and I confirmed that my VIN is part of the recall.

Unfortunately, the software is not on FDRS yet so I can’t apply it. My source thinks it will be available within a few days.

Good news, but I will stick with the Tekonsha until the heavy users report back how well it works. Over a year to fix a software bug seems very odd.

There were a few NHTSA complaints filed toward the end of last year and an investigation file was opened. The case number is referenced in the recall. I think that got Ford’s attention.

I know you’re a big fan of the P3. It’s a good controller. I’ve used it. But it’s not as good as the factory controller. I’d really like to get it working reliably.
