A quick sob story for you. This is a HUGE day for Ford with the launch event happening here shortly. Like many I am eager for my chance to get my hand on an f150 Lightning.

This morning I checked I checked my Ford.com account like I do every morning and--BAM!!-- "It's time to order your 2022 F150 Lightning!". I was so thrilled, elated, shocked. A bit dumbstruck if I'm being honest. I actually logged out, logged back in to make sure it was not a fluke. Still there. Took a screenshot. I did not see a way to order, no order button. (I did switch dealers recently, so I've heard that can happen). Sent a quick note to my dealer telling them I wanted to stop by ASAP so they could help me order.

Not a second thought.

Lunchtime.. went back to ford.com to see if the order button was there. NOPE. Worse-----

My reservation is still there, but the invite to order is GONE. Back to the generic wait screen.

I'm on a rollar coaster of emotions now. Totally spoiled my launch event enthisiasm.
Dealer says they can't do anything.. they say I should have gotten an email.

I called the general Ford number..agent there was less than helpful..couldn't tell me anything other than wait for an email.

I have heard sometimes the email is delayed from after the ford.com acct is updated. Not quite panicky yet..but getting there.

I have screenshots saved..I'm not making this up...

I may try to call the LIghtning reservations line(the one to change dealers, etc)-- when I called before they seemed very knowledgable.

I hope this wasn't a glitch. If so..not cool Ford..not cool. Pretty big screwup on launch day!

Thoughts/comments?

2022 orders are done. You won't be able to order until later this summer potentially for the 2023 model year. This was just a glitch in the site.

I heard they were doing build out orders thru 4/29 to finish out the MY.

Your dealer will know if you were supposed to get an invitation to order. If they say no, then perhaps it was some kind of a glitch. Your salesman may not know but someone at the dealership will know.

Wave 6 seems to be managed a bit differently than waves 1-5. I think that Ford wants to make sure they get the orders in the system to match their 2022 production capability.

Yeah but they could be incompetent. My dealer didn't know I was even invited. The guy who confirms it was out for a week long vacation. So I had to wait 6 days for the confirmation.

I called big ford(the general number) and they were clueless..as soon as I leave work I will call the Lightning specific number.

The general agent could not tell me if I was supposed to get an invite or not. Said he didn't have access to any of the invites and told me to wait for the email. Welp.

The Lightning team ( 1-800-334-4375) should have more info..they are the ones that help change your reservaton to new dealer or extend, etc. Seem to have a better handle on things.

Sorry it's been tough to see a potential order open up.
Keep checking your phone and email...

My dealer I reserved with had no idea my order window opened.

I actually received an email and text message from Ford at the same time when my 6th wave order opened.

Didn't get a call from the dealer until after I paid the $1500 deposit.

Update: cue sad trombone for me. Dealer does not see an invitation for me.. called Ford and talked to someone on the Lightning team. Very nice agent looked at the Wave invite list so whatever glitch that was fluke. No invite.

Still somewhat upset Ford screwed this up..that's kind of a big screwup to invite someone but not invite someone? The agent at the lightning team was very cordial and I appreciate her assistance. She did say this has happened from time to time(I'm not the only one)..a false invite going out.

Really Ford....Really? I'm sorry I just expect better. I'm not mad so much as disappointed. Ford really needs to look at this reservation process and make it better. This is so JV team....I expect these issues with a startup..not FordMoCo

Anyway, I'm still excited about the truck..even more than before.

The agent was very nice and I did get some info which may be helpful..take it FWIW:

1. Orders for MY22 will close on Apr 29. If you have an outstanding order..get it done and end the system. There will not be any cleanup or more orders after Apr 29. Anything left will be rolled into 2023.

2. Agent said 2023 ordering is tentatively scheduled to start in August. No exact date but she said that is what they are being told. They have not been told if it will again go in waves or what structure the 2023 ordering will take.

Sorry to hear this - I knew Ford had webpage issues in the past but to fake you was just bad programming on the web development team.

Thanks for sharing about the 2023 MY ordering info.

Just think, you will get a better Lightning after all of us beta tester guinea pigs pull all our hair out (wait, I don't have much hair left)....;)

I am sorry you got your hopes up but it was such an obvious glitch on the website.
I guess I had a higher expectation of competence...

I'll survive--not happy--but survive .

If Ford truly wants to wade into a more direct model of EV sales online(The Rivian/Tesla model of business)..they need to do better. If you're depending on people ordering online(taking the human out of the equation) you need to minimize glitches.

Do better Ford....
