I wasn’t able to find a thread on this already, but should the dealers know where you are in their line?

I joined the reservation list a bit late last year and tried to engage with my dealer on a ballpark of where I am in the line. They said that they can’t tell since the order banks are closed and I’ll just have to wait until I get my email and that’s when they’ll find out as well. I‘m pretty sure I’m going to be into the MY24, but want to be sure before I get another vehicle in the meantime.

No, dealers do not know. The invites come from Ford.

My dealer knew that I was their earliest reservation long before wave invites started. I don't know if the dealers see just the reservation number or if they also see the reservation timestamp along with the reservation number.

The average sales person probably does not have any access to that information but dealership management has access.

Id assume they went by timestamp. The Reservation number was not as as being sequential. They can also see Reservation number.

Lots of confusion in this thread.

The dealer absolutely knows where you are on THEIR list of people with reservations. They do NOT know where you are on the master list which is based on their list and allocations.

My dealer told me in the fall that I was like #72 on their list, and they were getting something like 6 or 8 (can't recall). So I knew I would not get a 2022.

I believe I will get a 2023. Reasoning:

I ordered at 9:50AM the morning after, i.e. 12:20 after the reveal.
20,000 people reserved the first day.
44,000 in 48 hours.
Therefore, I should be at most 25,000, and perhaps sooner.

Assuming they made 15,000 this year, at most I'm 10,000 on the list. Yes, dealer allocation messes it up.

Then, people cancelled their reservations.

80,000 or more will be made in 2023.

So I will get a 2023.

My first dealer could tell me where I was on their list. 45 of 250+. Next dealer said that I would be 39 of 200ish if I switched to them. Third dealer said that they wouldn't know until I switched. Once I switched my reservation I found out that I was in their top 10 of 63. I got a wave 4 invite after a May 21 reservation.

My dealer showed me their reservation system. I assume this is a Ford standard system. At the time I went in it was after Wave 2 and I could see that 7 people had ordered or deferred and I was next in line. I got an invite in Wave 3.

Like someone else said, this doesn't tell you where you stand in line overall, only at your specific dealer.

Whenever I tried to ask my dealer, they could not tell me exactly where I stood in line but did confirm I had a reservation.

No communications at all since day 1 and then lo and behold a text and email from Ford arrived a year later on 4/12/22 for an order invite.

Only AFTER I paid the deposit online for the order did I get a call from the dealer with a build sheet and price confirmation (no ADM) at MSRP.

I asked if I needed to come in and she said no - everything can be handled online, email or text.
She said when the truck arrives, if I wanted to do Ford financing, we can do it online and they would deliver the truck.

Signed the dealer's Docusign and my order is officially in.

Guess everyone's experience has been different in handling the Lightning reservations.

Just glad Ford made the contact first, then the dealer.

The dealer I (somewhat randomly) chose said there was no way they could tell me where I was on their list. I of course do not believe them. I started checking out other dealers in the area and they wouldn't even tell me how many reservations they have. It's like they have no interest in selling me a truck.

I thought I would chime in. My roommate made a reservation first week of June last year and knows she has to wait a while. Today she got a call from her dealer in Colorado and she missed it and called back. They said they had five allocations and wanted to know what model and battery she wanted. She said first I want to know if there is a mark up over MSRP, because if there was she was going to move her reservation. The guy on the phone said he didn’t think she could do that. Her knowing better said she could and she wouldn’t lose her date and time stamp if she moved it. The guy played dumb and said she needed to talk to their specialist tomorrow.

I’m guessing they are charging a hefty mark up and going down their list. We will find out tomorrow.

Went to my dealer yesterday and got told he had no clue where I was and what to expect. The whole system of dealer allocation is just beyond stupid for a truck that has every unit for years spoken for. There is a line essentially and that should be how the reservations are turned to orders. Yes some dealers will have more, but this is generally due to the fact some are screwing around with adm.

I really hope by the next vehicle I get the order process is a more refined tesla style then the shit show ford is doing now.

Wow, so the dealer was playing the "let's see who wants to pay way more over ADM" game ?

That's prioritization isn't it ?

I'd move my reservation in a heartbeat to a non ADM dealer!

That explains why I reserved on day 2 after spending the day asking 7 dealers around me and only 1 said no ADM - it's 2 counties over but well worth the drive. I will end up driving the extra distance to their service dept.

No idea why they wouldn’t tell you. Too lazy to look? Mine told me a long time ago that I’m #6 out of 18.

Almost exactly in the same boat here.

This is good and disheartening at the same time to hear. Annecdotally, it seems that a large number of the dealers prefer to ignore or stonewall you until they actually make money off of you.

I guess they can get away with it right now, since they were first. It will be interesting to see how many people walk away from this endeavor with a bad taste and hurting Ford in the long run from a lifetime customer cost.
