My county’s building department will not allow that. They are very strict and require load calculations. They gave me a permit for the circuit being capped off, and will require a separate permit for the charge station. They will not allow the installation of a separate 240 volt outlet on that circuit.
I would ask which NFPA / NEC code section is guiding their decision.

I have a blend date of 5/7 and Sun Run connected me on Wednesday 5/4. I declined everything and even the installation of the charger because I already had the wiring done in prep for the charger. Then they told me that the charger will come from Ford directly in this case. Has anyone else been told this?

That stinks. Wonderful start to the owner experience. Now folks who cannot or do not want to use Sun Run have to wait who knows how long for the charger just so the install can be scheduled. Would be nice if the charger could at least be shipped with the truck since not everyone has convenient access to free public level 2 charging.
I believe that they would ship after you purchase the truck to make sure you buy it first. There may be some buying this truck not approved for a loan and will not be able to buy it. Then Ford would be out s charger they sent to the customer. I think it would be nice if the charger just shipped with the truck, but then there is the possibility of people stealing them.

OEMs ship plenty of accessories loose in the vehicle or directly to dealerships for installation. Examples of expensive items include 22” wheels on SUVs (e.g., Chevy Suburbans).

Here’s a new video about charging. Wade through it. They show the home integration parts in this demo. Think it is from San Antonio

interesting video. I think that's the first time I've seen a Ford employee talking about loadsharing via intelligent power in the future via a software update with no new hardware required. One more reason to get the integration system.

So a Sunrun rep came out today to take pictures. Sadly he knew nothing about the actual system, just just took a million pics to send back to the designers in California. I have a complex system already including existing solar (Sunrun not Sunpower) and no idea how much this will end up being.

So frustrating as its my build week this week (blend Date of 5/12) and called SunRun and they said they could not do anything until they get my contact information from Ford. Knowing that some folks on here have not hit their build week and are still getting called by SunRun and getting people to actually discuss setting up an appointment is ridiculous. "What can I do for you to take my money?"

I fortunately don’t live in a SunRun serviced state. Their site automatically sent me to the Allexpress purchase page after I entered my information.

That said, I have an existing 200A service (two open breaker slots) in an attached garage that feeds (90A breaker) a separate “critical circuit” panel on with a manual ”transfer” switch for (exterior) hookup to a portable generator.

Yesterday, my electrician visited and we worked up 3 options pending release of more wiring details from Ford/Siemens/SunRun/Delta:

1. Run exterior conduit on the garage interior from the panel wall to the Charge Station Pro mount location (~20’ run) sized for 5 conductors, three for the 100A AC charge side and two for the DC power feed to a (possible) future HIS. Connect to an add-on 100A breaker to the main panel and leave the DC to the future.

2. Complete Option #1 (above), purchase ($3,895) the SunRun/Delta HIS direct and install it adjacent to the house & critical circuit panels, eliminate (possibly) the generator tie to the critical circuit panel.

3. Wire in a 50A circuit for the Ford portable charger.

He left me with some thoughts as he will be getting back to me with a firm bid after doing some additional research:

1. The wiring information provided in the documentation available on SunRun’s order web site does not make it clear on the number & size of conductors needed for their HIS connections. I saw a video of a Podcast with a Ford engineer yesterday that stated separate conductors are needed for the AC and DC paths (makes sense). Nothing was stated on the size on the DC path.

2. Are copper conductors required by the OEM for this installation. Neither Ford nor SunRun state this in their current documents. He said the price of copper conductors is through the roof right now, so be prepared to guard my loins…..

3. He thought the $3,895 price on the SunRun/Delta HIS equipment was a pretty good deal given what you received.

4. He charges $750/day per electrician, plus his supplied parts. His current guess is one electrician 1/2 day for Option #1. Option #2: Two electricians for 3/4 to 1 day.

It will be interesting to see my electrician’s hard bids. Obviously both Ford and SunRun need to provide more information for those of us who choose or have to DYI……

As I have posted somewhere, I have one of those HIS boxes on order that won’t get fulfilled until September it says. I also talked with SunRun and they said that they are prioritizing their customers first on the fulfillment of those HIS orders. I.e. If you contract through them to install it, you can get it now. If not, you have to wait.

Thanks for the info! I suspected as much, which is why the options with my electrician. The problem is there isn’t sufficient details out for him to plan for a cost effective (2) phased installation. I plan to initially install the Charge Pro, but the word is it’s delivery will be days (???) behind the truck. Good contractors are in high demand, so better information from Ford and their partners would be helpful……

For those wondering. SunRun told me they would request the charger from Ford prior to the Truck arriving. So it makes sense that if you decline installation with SunRun that Ford would ship it out to you.

I contacted Sunrun my self after having been in production since the week of 4/18 and not hearing anything up to this point. Person I talked to said they don't even have any of my information in their systems. Said Ford would send them my information when I got into production. Obviously I have been in prod for several weeks.

All good signs! Looks like it may be a long while after I purchase my truck for me to get the charger, at this rate.

You may contact the Lightning team at Ford and see what they can do. They are really helpful (or try to be) and I do think that there is some communication from Ford on SunRuns contact order. Are you in a SunRun state? That could also be telling
