Car Scanner App Template (For Real-Time Charging, Battery and Range Telemetry)

Not sure if anyone is a bit frustrated by lack of available details especially charging but here is a backup of a template that I made up to give me some real-time telemetry. A few of my local charging stations were acting up and now I can see a bit more in the background.

Using a OBD (BLE) scanner and Car Scanner in case members are scratching there head. Amazing App

Added a Zip file with the backup file that can be imported. Not sure if it will delete what you have so perhaps backup first.

Yes, that is the correct app. I am using iOS with a phone. You may have to adjust the position of the tiles if your screen size is smaller or bigger but easy to do if need be. Just double click on tile and it will allow to move, resize, and customize.

Under settings there is a backup and restore option. You will be using restore. But make sure you backup your own though first because betting it will over write it. I have changed a bunch of things as I have been using it but will give you a great start.

The app lets me select it but it doesn't do anything/seem to accept it. Bummer, now I will have to do some of my own work

To bring this thread back to life, I connected my truck to this app to my Lariat ER and got the following readings using the default dashboards:

Being new to looking at this “raw” vehicle data, there are a few things I don’t know how to interpret:

1. The “Energy” reading…..I assume the current energy in the battery?
2. The “HVB SoC” vs the “HVB SoC Displayed”. Why the difference and how do they relate to the “Energy” reading

In addition to the above, to me, the math doesn’t add up given the stated 131 KWh rating of the ER battery.

I’m trying to reduce my level of ignorance….thx in advance……

I just got mine and will be posting a S. load of questions of my own soon after I have had a chance to mess with it for a while but regarding this issue, my guess is 3.56 KWh difference is the bottom reserve you can't touch (to keep you from hitting the catual zero and damaging the battery). So SOC Display is the % of the charge you have access to which is 105.45 KWh and 109.01 KWh is the actual charge in the battery.

Of course I am not a mind reader and don't know what folks that put these things together were thinking but this is my guess.


Edit: I have no clue about Energy but it may be using a formula to include the impact of battery temperature. I am very curious about that one myself. Those of you in cold climate, could test this out and see if that number is closer to the other two in summer. I will keep an eye on it too. My SOC Display last night was 69.5% of 98KWh and energy was 55.77 KWh with temps in 30s

None of them are "hard" numbers as they reflect "usable/available" capacity.

i.e. your pack might have a designed capacity of 143.4kW on a 65F degree day in May, but on a 30F degree day in March it'll only have 109.01 kW capacity. This is why your range goes down in the cold, not only because you use more energy but because your battery "shrinks" in the cold.

Displayed is just that - what's displayed on your dash, this is your GoM value, this will vary more than the actual depending on whatever factors go into the GoM.

Just a thought regarding CarScanner's "battery remaining charge". Perhaps it's relative to a total capacity of 139 "ish" kwh instead of 143 for ERs. (no idea why 139 ish, but it seems to match my ER as well as a couple of other posts: 131 x SOC displayed / SOC remaining = approx 139. Tried to add decimal places to my SOC readings to get a more accurate number, but the digits were zero's.
