I'm frankly astounded by how many people on this forum give Ford a pass on the price increases due to the cost of supplies going up. The price increases may be partly because of that, but it seems abundantly clear that this is in response to the insane demand for the lightning. Ford is absolutely crushing it in the net income category even though its revenue has gone down and it treats customers like a necessary evil.

Ford is already collecting way more per vehicle just because everyone is paying sticker or above. Ford already set the lightning at a premium price last year. There is already a huge margin baked in, and this additional increase is gravy. And then they can use the materials costs as cover. But they know they will sell every single lightning they produce at sticker or above.

Iā€™ll admit to the privilege of already having the truck and what that affords me in terms of investment into the current drama. Iā€™m lucky, and I feel a lot of your various frustrations.

But the trend here about Fordā€™s price increases being ā€¦ evil? ā€¦ seems premature and maybe not well thought out.

On a ā€œnormalā€ year, how much might pricing increase year-over-year? Whatever your answer, put that % in one bucket.

Next, note that MY23 vehicles come standard with additional options (eg heated seats), some of which even result in additional range. The costs of the additional options and improvements, put in a second bucket.

Then thereā€™s lithium price increases. Put that % in your fourth bucket.

Then, thereā€™s general inflation that has occurred since the MY22 prices were set, which inflation has been substantial. Put that % in your sixth bucket.

Then finally, fine, if you must, have a seventh bucket which is Ford simply charging more for the Lightning.

Of those seven buckets, itā€™s hard for me to be as confident as some others here that the only bucket in play is the seventh bucket. Has anyone really done the maths on the first six buckets?

In any event, how much exactly Ford is giving the Lightning MY23 pricing a squeeze canā€™t really be evaluated u til Ford releases their ICE F150 pricing for MY23.

I think you need to also consider the options that aren't being carried over to '23. AM radio, on-board scales being the two I've seen. So, with a hefty price increase and a tax credit, even with the new swamp bill, that will provide ZERO benefit to me I'll end up having to eat that $6,000-$8,500 bump for less truck!!!

Some people just love the free market...until they don't love the free market. Think the Lightning is overpriced.. then don't buy it. It 's pretty simple to me.

Good luck with that Rivian or Cybertruck...
You are absolutely right. But what I think is important, in a thread about price protection for early reservation holders, is to not just give Ford a pass and say "this is all because of material costs and inflation and supply chain issues." Ford is totally able to raise prices due to inflation or due to massive demand. Ford can react to the demand like any business would. But I just don't think Ford should get away with blaming it on inflation. The demand came in WAY higher than Ford thought initially, and at least some percentage of the price increase is a reaction to that high demand.

weā€™re mixing things here a bit arenā€™t we?

thr AM radio is the only think I know of that has been deleted as a matter of trim inclusions

the deletion of onboard scales is different, as I understand it, and is instead among the things being removed from individual trucks (not trim levels) as a matter of chip unavailability

the latter category of festers being deleted from individual trucks as a matter of chip shortages is an absolute kick in the d*ick

I felt the MY22 Platinum trim price premium was stupid, and made my F150L the first non-platinum trim truck Iā€™ve purchased in at least 10 years. if I had paid the stupid premium for the Platinum trim, which as far as I could tell was only leather/dash, wheels, and then seat technology ā€¦ but then handed a truck without the seat technology, Iā€™d still be screaming at strangers.

I think you are missing the reason the OP and others continue to be disappointed by the release of the Lightning. He reserved early on day one and still canā€™t order his Lightning.

With no regard for those that committed early to this new product Ford allowed dealers to put whoever they wanted to the top of the list. Then add in the ZEV state allocations and many early reservations holders are being left behind when they justly believed they would be first in line.

Regardless of the reason Ford is raising prices these same customers feel they are getting screwed over again.

Ford needs these new enthusiastic truck customers who may only be able to afford a $40K Pro Lightning.
I think this is being lost in the current market where many of those who received a 22 Lightning are already flipping them.

Is it not removable?
It can be removed, but it leaves studs sticking up from the floor. From what I gather, those can be removed too, but it is a lot of work.

Final assembly only qualifies for half the tax credit in 23 and there is no mention of the reduced tax credit that the 90% will possibly qualify for if your income and vehicle configuration meet the criteria.
understand the frustration, and sorry for it

the Ford build page has for a long time had a zappy-ride populated field that by no stretch has ever been reliable except by accident; for example when I bought my truck it still advertised a state incentive known to be unobtainable.

If anything, I found it interesting the build page now contains a link to the recent DoE primer on the new credits, which is I think as much as anyone could say at present.

In all, Iā€™m not sure what different ford could do - saying ā€œno credits are possibleā€ isnā€™t true, and truth be told Ford wouldnā€™t know what else to say unless/until the IRS issues guidance on the battery minerals and battery assembly metrics.

All that said, at the end of the day while I might not hold it against Ford, like you that doesnā€™t mean Iā€™d pay it.

I completely agree with the original OP - I'm in the same boat having reserved about 10 hours after the reveal. I was originally with Granger and after finding out they were getting only a couple of allocations, I moved my reservation to a dealer in California. They got 25 allocations, but I was #34. Fat chance I will get a chance to order a Pro in 2023 as I'm sure they will be gone if I get a invitation to order.

My frustration is that the customer had no way of knowing which dealers were going to get allocations. I have a Silverado reservation and the GM dealers I have spoken to insist it will be purely based upon time stamp, not on dealer allocation. Time will tell if that is true. Basing invitations to order purely on time stamp of the reservation is the only fair way to do it in my opinion.

It is misleading because it is on the 23 order configuration page of which 90% will not qualify with only a small disclaimer to state that.
There will be NA assembled MY23 trucks delivered in 2022, 100% whose owners may still be eligible for the current tax credit. I'm still not sure how this disclaimer is deceptive:
