One of the most surprising things to me, so far, is how quiet the cabin is at high speed. I'm not going to say how high...but *high*. I know all the reviewers said it was quiet but I still didn't expect it to be this quiet. I've never owned a Mercedes S class, so maybe this is normal for high end luxury cars but my other vehicles have so much wind noise at these speeds that you can't hear yourself think. How did they get a big boxy truck to be so dang quiet? I love it!

Some of it also comes from the engine, yes, it's on dampening pads, there's a firewall, etc. but can't drown all of it out. Along with the engine is the vibration of the engine that vibrates the vehicle itself, so a little of that. Take those out and you lose a few decibels there. I'm not sure if they also use acoustic glass, they did in the 2021 Mach E, so that helps also. The Mach E is the quietest vehicle I've ever had.

Yes, it does have acoustic glass.

Likely laminated glass, the doors all have dual seals around them for starters.

One of the prior models of F150 came out with a number of design features just to reduce noise. It was quite apparent to anyone who bought F150s over and over. You'd see things like how back of cab interacted with bed and dual seals on doors.

Along with what others said...

There is 5000+ lbs of dense battery between the bottom of your cab and the wheels and road. Ford has definitely take advantage of this but all EV's come with this benefit.

You wants quiet, try the Audi Etron. Which is down in 60 dB range at 70 mph. Something like the sound of leaves rustling.

Once you get used to it its hard to go back to ICE. I dread renting cars at work now. Just feels like slumming it. Not sure why rest of America puts themselves through that daily beating.... :)

Does that mean it will cost a lot to replace? :)

Supposedly in that article, the glass is standard for Ford. I am sure the EV and the aspects of engine noise reduction, battery sound buffer, moulding acoustics, etc... are all helping reduce the noise overall. The glass itself looks to be around $500 to $700 if you order it through Ford. BUt there is no difference between a normal F-150 and LIghtning in that catalog. But then again, not sure there is any difference in the glass in those models either. Sounds like they standardized though which would probably help their supply chain and remove any variations in design, etc... Smart choice. This car is quieter than my Range Rover Sport for sure.

Update: I put in my VIN and the windshield assembly is $680. It includes the mirror, etc... though. MIght be able to find glass only.

Ford has been using that glass and trademark for at least 10 plus years. Shouldn't be any more expensive than other auto glass.

You will have to have re-cal on sensors in some cases when you replace windshield. LKA and such need to be exact. BlueCruise also.

One of the sales pitches for the F150L is that there are some common parts. Anytime you get a few million models you get a wealth of parts online and in junk yards.

I have a minivan which I drove for years and got the Mach E last year. I tell my wife when I drive the minivan it's like going from an iPhone back to a flip phone.
