My lariat has no coin holder in the area referenced above... It does have a coi sorter in the center storage area. On a separate subject, is there a specific app or other reason why drilling into the dash was required other than using the carplay/android Auto integration and the wireless charger already available? Is that not available on the pro or xlt models? I was taken aback by drilling holes into the dash... and the charging cord... That why QI and wireless connectivity exists...o_O Sounds like the coin holder is there if you dont have the tow package due to the tralier assist

I recall seeing a SR battery and the lariat version had that coin holder.

However I also don't have my Lariat ER to compare it yet.

The very first thing I did when I got my truck home was drill four holes in the dash. This mount is from Arkon.

Does Carplay or Android Auto not work for a specific app? Trying to understand the necessity for a mount like this with those and the wireless QI charger...

I am not too familiar with CarPlay. I didn’t use it in the last car because I did not like it. Trying it out here, but I don’t see a way to chose a route on Google Maps on the big screen, so I am doing it on the phone. Is there a way to plan a route in CarPlay?

I also sometimes use the phone for internet, say for instance if I pull over in a parking lot, and I like to have it there and ready, not down in a console. Phone is not mixed with other stuff this way.

Internet aspect makes sense. The thing is that with Carplay or Android Auto you really don't need to even have the phone out of your pocket. Unless you NEED to charge it. While Carplay has some quirks (mostly not immediately starting in the car sometimes), I do tend to think that it has pretty tight integration with the Lightning and the system it uses. I tend to use the Apple Maps with the Lightning (I use Waze in the other car since it tells me about police locations, etc...). On the apple maps you simple touch the screen and it pulls up a menu to enter in a place to go or allows you ask siri, etc... Works pretty slick. The Pandora and Audible applications work great for audio as well. I would say try it out. The waze app that I have tried to use just does not work well for some reason in carplay. probably Apple doing something to it ;). I am sorry for your holy dashboard though ;)

I just want to see maybe some info from my obd2 scanner. No way I drill holes in my dash though.

ABRP with a subscription will do that through Android Auto.

I guess I could try Apple maps. It was not as good as Google back in the day, like 10-15 years ago, so I just got used to Google. Maybe it's better now.
As for the holes in the dash...1. It's a truck; 2. I see it as an upgrade, like adding a tonneau cover or a light bar. Works for me, anyway.

I love Waze on Android Auto...especially the wireless AA. It was a little wonky in my Fusion and I had to plug in the phone for it to work. I rarely used it. Now in the Lightning it has all of the ease of using the app on my phone, just on the big screen. I just keep my phone on the charger or on its side in the slot between the shifter/cup holders.

I can't imagine drilling holes in my dash and having wires and this look destroy the beauty of the dash. But, to each their own, right?

I figured CarPlay (Android Auto) would make this option moot?

DOes it take a bit of time for it get sorted? I used to love waze but it just would never get my location right. I ensured it could in the phone as well.

I suggest you try it. It it is way way better than it was and in many ways (but not all) superior to Google Maps.

I have 3D-printed custom camera mounts, but I always get my phone mounts from Proclip. Here is the link for their Lightning mounts. You will need to select a mount and a holder. They are not cheap, but work well. I use the mighty mount wireless charging holder in several of my vehicles. I have used them in everything from a Prius, Slingshot, F150, Odyssey, C-Max, etc. Always easy to install and most of the time the mount locations are great. They also have solutions for other devices like tablets, etc. Unfortunately all the Lightning pictures seem to be in an XL or XLT with the small screen. They are running a Black Friday sale like everyone else (BF2022). I hope I am not violating any rules by posting the links (if I am, please let me know gently).

Slick job with that phone holder install, but....why do you need a phone holder if you have a 15" screen right next to it? Apple Play not enough for ya?
