I seem to get a lot more Regeneration with one pedal driving

I had heard early on that one pedal wasn't as efficient as driving the old fashion way -so Ive been driving with one pedal off. Using the brakes (and the brake coach) as normal I would have to gently moderate the bakes to get 100% energy back into the truck. The little graphic on the dash would show about 1/4" of regen to keep 100% efficient braking. Yesterday after 4K miles I tried one pedal driving. The graphic shows MUCH more regeneration going back into the battery as if it is hardly blending in any brakes. It has got me wondering if, despite the theory, my efficiency will go up with one pedal driving. Thoughts?

In almost any real world scenario, 1PD and traditional driving with blended breaking should be about the same. Not using 1PD can be slightly more efficient if you are using hypermiling techniques, using very long coast downs to come to a stop and letting gravity accelerate the truck down every hill.

Just use the mode you are most comfortable with. I use 1PD all the time because I love it. My wife hates it so she leaves it off.

Yes, do what you are comfortable with.

I never use 1PD due to the harsh regen braking making driving in urban bumper to bumper traffic almost nauseating.

OTOH, I enjoy sport mode on freeway driving when it's light traffic, if it's not bumper to bumper like most of the time.

90% of the time I have it in traditional mode - and still getting 15%-25% more range than EPA numbers.

Tested out sport mode the other day. I feel like sport mode is right in the middle of normal and 1PD mode. I am usually just normal mode and briefly tested sport and 1PD as the regeneration can make the drive erratic at times due to the increase regen.

All the drive modes, and 1PD, result in the same efficiency, they just change the responsiveness of the accelerator and how much regeneration is automatically applied when you come off the accelerator. Since regeneration is used when you hit the brake pedal, and the actual pads don't get used until you get to the near end of the stop (or at all), it's the same overall.

This I did not know that!

Where I drive in urban bumper to bumper, I was going to wear down the brake pads faster than folks who drive in rural areas - had me worried.

Well, in that case, I'll continue coasting in traditional / normal mode and use the brakes at the last moment!

If you want to feel the difference, drive down your local street and slowly apply the brakes until you come to a stop. Now, do it again, but this time shift into N first before braking, which disables the regenerative braking.

If you use 1PD, you may notice your rotors rusting. The rust tells you that the pads aren't getting used. This is a way to clean them off also.
