The only adjustment I can see that Ford should have made on 1/1 would be to change the XLT-ER starting MSRP to $79,995. It’s only a few hundred off and it would qualify an ER truck for the Tax credit.

They should go back to the prices they were originally introduced. That would make the truck appeal to non truck guys(like me).

The current prices are too high
There is this weird thing about companies, especially ones with stock holders. They are bound to do everything in their power to make money.

No, think of the Lightning as a Specialty Vehicle for now, like the Raptor and Tremor. Fords bread and butter are still ICE vehicles, lower trim, fleet sales, etc. etc.

Unlike Tesla, Ford doesn’t need EV sales to survive for now.

Even at higher prices, the Lightning is still a deal.

Monster power, unmatched utility, 131 kWh pack, luxury ride. I don’t see it dropping any time soon.
I thought I would have never bought a vehicle this expensive but ultimately I justified it with the points you summed up perfectly.

Up until now the market for our trucks has not been balanced/mature. (Numbers are all made up for illustrative purposes) If there are 1000 people willing to pay 90k for the truck and there are 100 trucks available it appears as though there is huge demand and the prices can go up. Once those initial 1000 people have their trucks the demand may absolutely drop off to almost nothing. We don't know where that point is and Ford hopes to never find it. Once the market matures and can achieve actual balance through inventory and competition we will get a better idea where the final prices will stabilize.

It will be great for customers if prices fall, but that brings out one of the perils of deflationary pricing. It the prices are going down, what if I wait longer to purchase? Will it fall further? And if people delay purchase, the manufacturers nay interpret this as a need to further reduce prices. How much would it suck to pay 60k today and then next week the price is 50k? Especially if you don't need to make this purchase NOW. Things are a bit different if you need to do it now and either the price is OK or not, but in a deflationary market, where purchased can be delayed things will get progressively uglier for the manufacturers.

Well that's not going to happen anytime soon with the Lightning due to increase in cost for raw materials, batteries, chips and parts....

As much as my $39K GM Silverado EV truck reservation might sound tempting back in 2022, I highly doubt I would be able to order it at $39K this summer when they start production for fall 2023 deliveries....

WSJ is now saying there is an oversupply of chips- maybe as component prices decrease so will MSRP for the F150L.

Not really trying to be snarky, but I'm thinking you'll be happy sitting on the sideline a while. They won't open Pro and XLT at all again this year unless things become dire. They already had too many people they queued ahead of you that they wouldn't let order the lesser trims, so they don't plan on any more for this year.

A Lightning Ranger is a no brainer IMO and maybe where they should have started.

Lets not forget that Tesla's stock have been slaughtered lately and has lost 60% of it's stock value since September (especially from December to now), I'm sure this also plays a factor in trying to boost sales and get investors all warm and cuddly again. (Ford lost 15% in the same timeframe)

I agree with most, no big overhauls on the price of Lightnings (at least lower), if 2023s are sold out for retail we might even see an increase on 2024s. I also agree that XLT ER would be a candidate for a minor adjustment to fit into the new tax rules, but then again, Ford doesn't seem all that keen on selling ERs so who knows what their strategy is.

Yes I am a first minute reservation too but something tells me that $39K full sized Chevy Silverado EV will not happen.

I think by the time we get to order this summer for the EV WT, it might be way more money or way less range (200miles)....

When I went to the LA Auto show, I was invited to the GM VIP show before the event and they stood by the $39K price point...
